A collection of restaurants and craft beer outlets has been proposed for the long vacant Hub Theatre at Newton in inner suburban Sydney.
Back in the 1970s and 1980s it was notorious as a cinema that attracted a dubious clientele.

i suspect alot of these will be in emerging outer suburbs. seems to be the only locations they could open as most other places are saturated
I reckon they would do good business with more of them in a service centre type operation along the major highways. Particularly the Pacific Highway with recent bypasses opening. Locations I’d look at include Bulahdelah and Maclean. Also Tenterfield and Coonabarabran.
Food court stores are shutting down as the leases expire. Still have one food court outlet in WA at Westfield Carousel.
Garden City and Morley have closed in recent years.
The store I miss is the tiny outlet that was in Hay Street Mall in Perth CBD back in the 90’s and 2000’s. Literally had the service area and no seating. Get in get out, it was great.
its the airport ones i miss. food at an airport is so variable that at least with maccas your getting the same regardless of if its an airport or not
There is such an outlet inside the ticketed area of Melbourne Central train station. It has a kitchen, two service areas (one facing the food court and the other facing the station) and no seating.
There’s also McDonald’s at Whitford City as well still. I think.
Most Australian airports now tend to prefer to tender out food and beverage operations to one or two businesses only (generally Delaware North and ELRA (Emirates)), and I don’t think either of them are McDonalds franchisees - thus why you’ll see HJs or other fast food chains but not McDonalds.
Forgot about that one, but there is a drive thru, so it’s not exclusively a food court outlet.
There is a MacDonald’s at the Virgin terminal T2 at Sydney and a Hungry Jack’s at the Qantas terminal T3. Even before Covid the trading hours of some of the outlets meant that the only place open would be Hungry Jack’s when you are catching the later flights. I prefer elsewhere if I can like Wok on Air in the Qantas terminal for some good relatively cheap Asian food.
Correct, still there as I was there around a week ago.
This is an interesting one. We don’t eat a lot of take away or take out as such (we tend to prefer to cook at home - usually with a glass of red whilst doing so) but I have found myself thinking we should to support the local businesses. But then I wouldn’t do that normally… torn
This is what I do as well, except in my case it’s a 5 min walk or less.
I have never used Uber Eats or any of those food delivery services - from what I’ve heard they take ages to arrive, the food is squashed and is lukewarm at best by the time it arrives.
Plus they eat your chips!
.
Unrelated to eating chips, I ordered Grill’d (I was desperate) to work the other day for lunch from UberEats and it took an hour to arrive from the time I placed the order. I might have been better off walking up the street to the store and ordering in person.
This family taste tested it for 23 minutes
and this couple took 13 minutes
and there are numerous other reviews on YouTube.
I reckon I could probably polish it in about 3 minutes.
Honestly it’s such a waste of time and money. Good for those who are fans of BTS but otherwise there are better deals elsewhere.
My considerably quicker verdict: McNuggets taste nice, McDonalds French Fries taste nice, Coca-Cola tastes nice. Haven’t had the special BTS sauces (which are likely to resurface in an unrelated future promotion), but I’d be willing to guess that the Sweet Chilli sauce is likely to be alright with the Cajun possibly a bit too hot for my tastebuds.

Side note: It’s been rather interesting to see this longtime SCTV Twitter follower (perhaps most remembered for that homemade “Carols in the Domain Bingo” card) become a minor TV star in recent weeks, but that lengthy discussion is for another time & topic! ![]()
Yep, I agree. The marketing spin on the Maccas website is good for a laugh though! ![]()
