Agree. There is a fine line between a sexy Eurovision entry and a sleazy one. I’m not sure this was on the right side of that line.
I was absolutely shocked that we didn’t make it through. That song was one of our best entries over all the years I think and I agree that the live version didn’t match the film clip but it still wasn’t too bad and I think there’s been plenty of other sleazy ones too!
Ah well, at least I won’t be late for church on Sunday morning now!
Not surprised at all that this song didn’t make it!
Not anymore:
He will be replaced by singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Who is the Australian spokesperson?
Very gracious message from Go-Jo. I think he was robbed. Some of the acts that made it through that semi-final were a lot worse than some that missed out.
They were great togther. The commentary and interviews.
Courtney is always a great host. I was a bit unsure about Tony beforehand but he was great too. He seemed to be genuinely enjoying the whole experience.
he does need to learn how to pronounce “Eurovision”. It is one word. It is not “Euro Vision”.
I am shocked by the fact that we are even sending acts to Eurovision. Last I checked - we’re not in Europe. How much taxpayers funds is being spent to do this?
It’s like having 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed finishers in the big Euro football comps playing in the Champions League. Dilutes the purpose.
Neither is Israel or Armenia
Closer than us!
Because the eligibility rules are not geographic, but rather based on membership to the European Broadcast Area. We are an associate member, which doesn’t grant us the ability to normally participate, but we were invited to participate for a one-off and have continued to be invited ever since.
They won’t publish the exact figures, but I would suspect in the grand scheme of the federal budget, it would be small change.
They should just call it Anyvision.
My understanding is that at least during the first few years Sony were funding most of the entry costs, but I’m not sure if this is still the case
It’s also an income generator for SBS. They sell advertising over multiple days morning and prime time and it usually gives them some of their highest ratings of the year and allows them to promote the rest of their programming. So it could easily give a positive cash flow or at least be cost neutral.
that wasn’t the question
On the other hand, he was actually pronouncing some of the foreign names and song titles better than Courtney was.
Who cares? It’s fun and popular, and as far as I’m aware not a big drain on the budget!
Just dont worry about it Karen. Let SBS enjoy its ratings boost and the musical act get recognition outside of their home country.
Tony and Courtney are not good IMO. Tony just sounds so bored.
We need a comedian to lightly have fun with this - Tim McDonald and Mel Tracina would have been a natural follow on to our previous combos if I had a dream two.
Maybe Tony, Courtney would have worked with a 3rd person alongside them. Even Tony Martin would have been great.
