Céline Dion made a rare appearance during the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest with a brief, pre-recorded message.
The star won the contest for Switzerland in 1988, and it had been rumoured she would take the stage as the ceremony returns to the country this year.
“I’d love nothing more than to be with you,” she said in a video, apparently ruling out that possibility. “Switzerland will forever hold a special place in my heart. It’s the country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary.”
I watch the You Tube stream, so didn’t see it, but there are ‘windows’ where the broadcasters who show ads are permitted to breakaway to ad breaks

Yeah, the title card played but SBS didn’t go to a commercial break, just seemingly crashed into the chats to speed it up a bit.
Usually I would check the YouTube stream out but I really liked Courtney and Tony’s commentary.

How did we not qualify? Odds had us at 4th or 5th favourite in this semi-final. It was a lot of fun, much better than our last year entrant. Too bad semi-final 2 was much stronger than the first. They need to bring back jury voting in semi-finals.

I agree. They need to bring back jury voting in the Semis. That was ridiculous we didn’t get through and acts like Greece did. I’m in the UK at the moment and the BBC hosts here dumbfounded too. Also how did Czechia not get through.
Very surprised he missed out. It was such a strong song that seemed to be well received in Europe in the lead up and one of our best entries. Had to be better than many that got through. Perhaps the staging could have been better.

I’m surprised he didn’t get through to the final but I also think the live stage version didn’t match the energy and fun of the music video

Yes. If they want to keep the quality acts then they need to have the jury votes.
