Eurovision Song Contest

The draw for the semifinals happened this morning, Australia drew the 2nd half of the first semi final. Good for us also that most of the Nordic countries who we usually score highly with are voting in our semifinal (Sweden, Finland, Iceland)

Noticed that Dannii Minogue has released a new song, with a very suspicious length of 3 minutes.

Not a bad tune if there is any link there :eyes:

I disagree, I find the song very flat and it doesn’t go anywhere. If this is our song, we will struggle this year IMO. Especially being in such a competitive semi final.

Yeah I think you could be onto something. Pretty suspicious timing to release a new track of that length when she’s been rumoured as well.

The song is not too bad. It’s not a winning track but with a fun performance and production it could do alright. She has a bit of a profile in Europe too which could be a bonus.

Agree! it’s very bland and safe

Yes she’s got a high profile in Europe for sure. Probably more popular than Kylie in Germany for example.

I don’t mind the song actually, and can imagine it played in cafes and bars across Europe - which seems to be the type of song that wins Eurovision a lot these days.

Petra will host Eurovision Song Contest for the third time (she did it in 2013 and 2016), while this will be Malin’s debut as Eurovision host.

At yesterday’s AACTA (Industry) Awards, the TV Entertainment Award was awarded to “Eurovision Song Contest 2023 - Grand Final”.

Good win for them.

I think the AACTA Award was given to Blink and SBS for the production of SBS broadcast, not the actual event which was produced by BBC Studios with input from Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC.

When will we know who Australia’s entry is? Gee they’re dragging it out aren’t they?

So impatient every year. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It was announced on 22 February last year.

Our internal selections have always been announced late Feb/early March. A lot of other countries like Switzerland, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Poland have also released no info regarding their participant.

The open letter backs the EBU’s decision to keep Israel in this year’s contest.

I don’t think Israel will be excluded, but I do think for security reasons they will end up doing an on tape performance like Australia did in 2021.

I really wish they would just withdraw for the year. I can’t see them surviving the first semi-final anyway, so what’s the point? It’s such an awkward scenario where Eurovision don’t want to force them out because there is both a big following in Israel and they don’t want to make the contest too political (Russia scenario was quite different), however at the same time it’s creating a fair bit of backlash with them being there. I don’t want to see this become a big focus looming over the competition.

I noticed that Ricki-Lee announced that she’s releasing a new song. She’s said in the past that she’s wanted to do Eurovision and Idol will be wrapped up I guess in late March sometime so these things could all align.

Israel will not withdraw, they are too proudful to do that, nor do I think they will send a live on tape performance, I see them being there in person. I also would not be surprised if they do qualify as you can’t vote against a country.
