Eurovision Song Contest

I am just happy that there will be an actual contest next year and not a virtual sing-off. For Montaigne, it will mean more time spent in Europe, including two weeks in hotel quarantine before she can start any rehearsals.

Where does it say that? They don’t have the same quarantine rules that we do.

Stumbled across this recently. I think we all would probably agree the best runner up of the 2010’s would be Dami, but some of these from the 2000’s brought back memories.

For me it was Yohanna by a country mile, what a voice and those key changes. I can’t remember who won that year.

Alexander Rybak won with Fairytale that year. He held the record for the most number of points for a win until 2017.

Some of the new European entries are being released. When do we hear the new Australian entry?

You don’t have to wait too long. The Australian entry by Montaigne will be officially released tomorrow, but she announced the song title - Technicolour - on social media this afternoon. She will perform the song at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade at the SCG on Saturday night.

I really like Montaigne’s Eurovision song. It is unique and catchy but also has that Eurovision vibe and moment. I hope it does well.

Can you post a link to the full song? I can only find snippets.

It is on Spotify. Most other places that it’s been posted (like YouTube) get blocked or removed.

Edit: Actually this one seems to work for now:

I really love it and think it’s definitely the catchiest song that we’ve put into Eurovision. I havn’t heard many of the other acts but I think this song could stand out. I’m looking forward to her Mardi Gras performance of it.

I don’t love it personally but it is catchy and very Euro.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021

Montaigne releases Australia’s official Eurovision song Technicolour

Listen to the entire song here.

2021 Eurovision contestant and ARIA Award-winning art-pop songwriter, Montaigne, has had the internet buzzing this week as teasers of her brand new Eurovision song spread like wildfire.

Montaigne will sing the uplifting and powerful anthem Technicolour at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and broadcast exclusively on SBS from 19 to 23 May .

Montaigne will light up the Sydney Cricket Ground with her first ever performance of Technicolour at the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on Saturday night which will be streamed internationally on SBS On Demand . As the official broadcast partner, SBS is proud to bring to life the colour and magic of the event live and exclusively.

Written and produced specifically for Eurovision, Technicolour is a new song highlighting Montaigne’s vocal prowess, with upbeat pop stylings and a catchy anthemic feel. Montaigne co-wrote the song alongside Sydney-based songwriter and producer, Dave Hammer ( Lime Cordiale, Thundamentals) .

Montaigne said: “I’m so excited to present Technicolour to the world! I think it does it all — makes you want to cry, makes you want to dance, makes you want to take on a malignant corporate power — and I think that it is both forward-thinking and suitable for Eurovision.”

Sure to make waves at Eurovision, Technicolour will allow Montaigne to showcase her powerhouse vocals and electric energy.

SBS Commissioning Editor and Australian Head of Delegation Josh Martin said: “We love this song! SBS has always celebrated the technicolour nature of Australia and the world, and Montaigne has written an anthem that encapsulates all that we stand for as a broadcaster and a country. Where better to premiere it, than one of the world’s most loved Pride events – the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras ! The song is positive, purposeful – and let’s face it – fun! It will be right at home at the world’s largest, inclusive technicolour song contest where, to borrow a line from the chorus – ‘if we stand together, we can do whatever’.”

Creative Director of Eurovision – Australia Decides and Director of Blink TV Paul Clarke said: “ Technicolour begins by addressing the universal and personal challenges of the pandemic, then it empowers you to be a superhero and rise above. It’s all done with Montaigne’s cheeky sense of humour, at once vulnerable and kinda fierce. I’m expecting some deep and moving music this year at Eurovision, but we are flicking the switch to empowerment with Montaigne and turning the volume right up.”

Despite best efforts AMPTV say the events that followed after the confirmation of Armenia’s participation at this year’s event have made it impossible to organize an entry in time for this month’s deadline.

“Internet buzzing” might be a bit of a stretch…

Actually I’ve listened to the song a few times now. While it’s very Euro I personally don’t think she stands a chance with it. It doesn’t do it for me.

I’ve just watched Montaigne’s performance at the Mardi Gras and Joel Creasey said he will be excited to take her to Eurovision in Rotterdam later in the year. Then he corrected himself and said , well Montaigne will be going but I don’t think I will be.

So does that mean there’s a good chance Joel and Myf won’t go to Rotterdam and only do the commentary from Australia?

I think it would be extremely unlikely Joel and Myf will be there in person.
