I agree. The highlight for me was Mans by far. Great duet with Dami but Heroes was the highlight of the night.
As for the songs, ugh I was unimpressed. For me Vanessa’s stood out. Really liked it. Casey’s song was great and great performance but I couldn’t see it doing well in Rotterdam.
As for Montaign - I must have completely missed something because I found it BORING. Actually made me nod off both times. I really didn’t like it and I predict it will bomb in a big way. I highly doubt it will be in the top half of the field and it possibly won’t make the final imo.
People in Europe already liked the song prior to our national selection ,just look at the Youtube reactions and the comments on her Youtube channel. After Montaigne won, Australia went up to number 1 in the betting odds which is a good sign because last year when Kate won we dropped by a lot in the betting.
I was there last night. The crowd in the room definitely went the craziest for Casey and Vanessa so I thought one might win. In the audience it was hard to enjoy Montaigne performance because she did it all to the camera which was blocking her for most of it, but good for TV.
I’m glad that Montaigne won in the end though. It was by far the best song and it’s our best shot at doing well. Like mentioned above it already seems quite popular amongst Eurovision groups.
Casey and Vanessa were great too but at the end of the day they are both well known artists that had big fanbases voting for them. Casey gets votes whatever she appears on so I bet she was top even before the show and they were from a lot of people that don’t even follow Eurovision. They won’t have those fanbases to support them at Eurovision. Montaigne is a relative unknown to most so for her to get so high with public vote shows they were voting based on the song/performance based. So she’s def the right choice.
Yeah I dunno. I get the feeling Montaigne’s Triple J fan base were out in force with the public vote. But I just don’t think the song was the best and the Eurovision odds at this stage of the game are about as reliable as the rainfall
I’m not saying that you can’t have your opinion of the song. That’s personal taste.
But it was the highest rating one with the jury, had the second highest vote with the public and European odds took it to number one, yet you predicted “it will bomb in a big way”. I’m just saying that I don’t agree with your prediction based on the facts presented.
There are a lot of Eurovision winners that I haven’t liked or I thought were quite lacklustre, including last year’s winner. They still won though.
That’s absolutely fine. All I’m saying is that favourites change like the wind at this stage of the game with the Europeans. I still think it’s going to bomb but would be delighted if I’m wrong and I really don’t care if am wrong. Just my opinion.
I highly doubt that but if that fanbase exists I doubt they are that into Eurovision. There’s no way it’s bigger than Caseys, she won Idol and I’m a Celeb ffs. She has a fanbase that vote for her in Australia on everything that she goes on and they did again last night.
Ballads like Casey’s, whilst a great song and performance, have been done a million times at Eurovision. I read a few Eurovision online forums and I see a bit of hype from people in Europe about Don’t break me. It was rated top by our jury which included a previous winner and our top 10 entrant last year so I think they have a bit of an idea. To me jury is more important than public because popularity in Australia means nothing when it comes to performing to Europe. You say it won’t even pass the first semi. If it doesn’t then so be it. It’s still our best chance. At least it’s modern, catchy and seems to have some hype.
Practice what you preach. You are telling me to lighten up when you are the one that’s hating on everything. I’ve mentioned that I thought all top 3 acts were good but have just put some context on the result and why I think it’s the right choice. If you don’t like that opinion that’s OK.
Not at all. It’s just a discussion which was only made personal when you told me to ‘lighten up’ because you didn’t like my opinon.
This was announced during the Eurovision Australia Decides telecast on Saturday to be exact. Also she’s not competing in Eurovision, she will be entering the Australia Decides contest next year so won’t necessarily go through to Eurovision again. I agree that it’s unlikely she will do as well again even if she represents us again so it’s as risk of tarnishing her result… but there are a lot of repeat artists that come back. Russia’s entrant last year had competed a few years earlier. He came 3rd both times.
She already announced that on Saturday during our national selection. She was robbed last time due to the politics that went on between Ukraine and Russia in the year she competed. There have been many past acts who went on to do Eurovision again. We had 5 returning participants just last year.
