Eurovision Song Contest

When did that happen? We’ve made every single final and were Top 10 last year.

Finally we have all 10 songs. I’ve only heard the 7 that were released so far and IMO it’s not as good a selection of songs as last year so hopefully the 3 that came out today are good. From the 7 released prior to today I think that Mitch Tambo is probably the stand out for me. Casey’s song ‘Proud’ is actually OK and stands out more than some of the others.

I’m actually going up to the Gold Coast for this next weekend and will be attending the live show on Saturday night. I’m more excited to see Kate Miller-Heidke and Mans Zelmerlow perform than the actual contestants.

Edit: Actually had a listen to the newer songs. Montaigne song is great. It’s very Eurovision and I think stands a good shot.

Yeah Montaigne is clearly our best choice followed by Vanessa and Jaguar Jonze.

This year’s jury consists of:
Kate Miller-Heidke, Eurovision: Australia Decides 2019 winner
Josh Martin SBS Commissioning Editor for Entertainment and Australia’s Head of Delegation at Eurovision
Paul Clarke, Director of Blink TV and Creative Director of Eurovision and Australia Decides
Milly Petriella, APRA AMCOS Director of Member Relations
Måns Zelmerlöw, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015

Australia’s ten 2020 Eurovision contenders took to the stage in an epic preview show on the Gold Coast.

It’s a very long show scheduled for 2 hours and 42 minutes and will probably end up being closer to 3 hours. So why didn’t they start it earlier in the night, like 7.30pm?

They did…in QLD :stuck_out_tongue:

Mostly on the back of high jury votes. With the public votes we’ve fared very poorly. IIRC, Australia was almost at the bottom of the public votes for the last few years.

Ah. So it’s all your fault. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yeah, soz :stuck_out_tongue:. Can’t fade those curtains. Plus we don’t like sour milk.

So the winner was helped by the jury votes because the public voted for the runner up.

Pretty much.

Wish Casey won. Oh, so close.

I think the winning song is a very Eurovision song and was quite different, so it could do well for Montaigne. I think she needs better styling on stage though, although the concept is good.

I did like Casey Donovan’s powerful song too. Her performance was brilliant.

Montaigne to represent Australia at Eurovision 2020

Pop singer Montaigne has won the chance to travel to the Netherlands for a chance at Eurovision glory.

Montaigne will head to the Netherlands in May to represent Australia at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest after being declared the winner of SBS’ Eurovision – Australia Decides .

The singer, whose real name is Jessica Cerro, beat nine other contenders for the right to represent Australia at the competition with her original song, “Don’t Break Me”.

All 10 contestants performed before a live studio audience on the Gold Coast on Saturday night, with the contest broadcast to the rest of the country on SBS.

Australians were encouraged to vote via text message for their favourite performer.

It was the second time since Australia joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 the country’s performer was chosen via a public vote.

The public was responsible for 50 per cent of the decision, with the other half falling to a panel of industry professionals.

Among the other contestants was Gamilaraay singer Mitch Tambo, who garnered attention with his 26 January performance of John Farnham’s You’re The Voice , which he performed in his traditional language.

Tambo said the competition was a chance to show the world that Indigenous Australia culture was alive and thriving.

“No matter where we come from, no matter what gender we are, sexuality, culture, religion, race … we just need to come together and love one another,” he said.

Had he been successful, Tambo would have been the third Indigenous Australian to grace the Eurovision stage in Australia’s five years as part of the contest, after Isaiah Firebrace performed in 2017 and Jessica Mauboy in 2018.

The other contestants were veteran Australian performer Vanessa Amarossi, Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan, The Voice winner Diana Rouvas, singer-songwriter Jordan-Ravi, emerging artist Jaguar Jonze, rock performer iOTA, alternative artist Didirri, and Jack Vidgen, who first came to public attention when he won Australia’s Got Talent at 14 years of age.

Inaugural Eurovision – Australia Decides winner Kate Miller-Heidke, Sweden’s 2015 Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw, and last year’s Junior Eurovision representative Jordan Anthony took to the stage alongside contestants on Saturday night.

Korean-born singer-songwriter Dami Im, who came second at Eurovision 2016 with her song Sound of Silence, also performed.

The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest takes place 12- 16 May in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

If that was the best ten songs I’d hate to have to listen to the ten worst. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. Casey was by far the best song and singer with Vanessa second. To me the rest including the winner were extremely average to say the least. Best part of this long, long show was Mans and Dami’s duet and off course Mans singing Heroes.
Hopefully Dami will win next year and we have a proper singer representing Australia.

Kate came 3rd with the public in her semi and 7th with the public in the final. It’s only Isaiah and Jess Mauboy who did bad with the public.

Montaigne was only 7 points behind Casey with the public. Which is insignificant.

Europeans are loving Montaignes song. They were even prior to our selection. She was in everyone’s top 3 picks. I have a feeling with improved staging we will do very well this year having heard some of the other songs in the national selections of other countries.

Kate Miller Heidke was great too. It was a very long show with a lot of unnecessary padding. A bit repetitive with clips from the singers talking about their performance and then being interviewed backstage basically saying the same things again.

10 great performances last night. It was great that they kept up the production standards after last year’s controversy in which SBS called in a director from Denmark to run the show.
My top three would have been Vanessa first, Casey second and Montaigne third.
