Dream Home

Passable, ratings wise.

So tonight, we see the contestants with the two half-completed houses look at their houses? Which means the rest of the house renovations are shown in 1.5 episodes?

I actually don’t mind this show. Yes, it may be basic (compared to The Block), but i prefer that style. Could they show a little more actual renovation though? Yes. Is there the usual “reality-style drama”? Not too much, yet, but am sure it will happen. lol.

Last night’s dedication

The homeowners’ reveals lasted less than 20 minutes - less than 10 minutes each for Brad and Mel’s house and Elle and her boyfriend’s house. The homeowners had to put blindfold on and to be led by Dr Chris from room to room.

Hopefully during the full reveal next week, the homeowners would be able to walk through without a blindfold.

The second stage of the renovation - for the remaining rooms, would only have seven days for all teams.

Seems really crazy that they renovated half a house for judging and a reveal then the tradies will be back in the house renovating again. Wouldn’t all the dust and dirt ruin the renovations and furnishings in the completed bits?

Same thing happens with the block…

The completed renovations and furnishings were covered in plastic sheets and white hessian.

Homeowners in awe of reveals

As illness and injury hits the competition

Tonight on Dream Home: Homeowners Brad and Mel and Taeler and Elle were in awe to see their first renovated rooms, before illness and injury caused havoc on the building sites.

Watsonia Renovation
Homeowners: Taeler and Elle

Renovators: Brad and Mel; Lara and Peter; Rhys and Liam

After shrinking the study down last week to accommodate their separate powder room, Mel and Brad opted out of delivering the study, frustrating the other teams.

After a stalemate, Rhys and Liam stepped forward to take the hard space in addition to a bedroom, hallway and ensuite. Lara and Peter were allocated a hallway and home facade, while Brad and Mel claimed the master bedroom and walk-in robe.

To realise their dream bathroom, Rhys and Liam successfully negotiated floor space from Brad and Mel’s walk-in robe.

Brad and Mel were planning a luxury hotel-style combined walk-in robe and master bedroom with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and hidden LED lighting. But they started to panic that their budget might fall short of the luxe look they were hoping to achieve.

Peter and Lara were two days into the ambitious transformation of the façade when Lara became ill. After seeing a doctor, Lara was told to rest, leaving Peter to do the work—and make decisions—on his own.

Northcote Renovation
Homeowners: Brad and Mel

Renovators: Taeler and Elle; Hannah and Jonny; Jordan and Jacinta

Sisters Taeler and Elle took on the mammoth task of restoring a heritage facade and a bedroom for Brad and Mel’s 12-year-old daughter, Ginger. Jordan and Jacinta were allocated the laundry, master bedroom and walk-in robe. Hannah and Jonny decided to tackle the hallway, upstairs ensuite, and 14-year-old Maya’s bedroom.

To make their upstairs master bedroom spectacular, Jordan and Jacinta opted for an eye-catching polished Venetian plaster, hoping the wow factor would take them from 4th place on the leaderboard into the Top 3.

Hannah and Jonny’s ensuite plans were thrown into chaos when the council rejected their application to remove a window. In a moment of frustration, Jonny hit his head, and the medics were called in. The chaos of the day also took its toll on Hannah, who was emotional and said she didn’t know what she was doing.

After delays, the plasterboard sheeting arrived, but was offloaded into Taeler and Elle’s façade space, stopping them from getting anything done.

Tomorrow on Dream Home: Taeler and Elle’s ban on access to the front yard causes friction with builder Luca, while Brad and Mel’s budget blow-out cause the couple to rethink some of their styling decisions.

Given Brad and Mel’s home would gain a new upper storey, it was interesting that no team was allocated the stairs linking the two levels. Could it be renovated later in the competition?

How do you renovate stairs? They are being built to link two rooms on two levels as part of the renovation.

That’s correct.

Next Monday (Tuesday in VIC, TAS, SA and NT) it’s the second homeowners’ reveal of the Melbourne houses, then it’s off to Brisbane to renovate the homes of Hannah and Johnny, and Rhys and Liam.

Format wise it really isn’t appealing to have half a reveal too - and then that undermines the full reveal the following week. That said having the reveals just be 10 minutes isn’t a bad thing - House Rules was much better in the first couple of years when the judging and house reveal took up the last half hour of the final show of the week rather than the entire show as it became in later years.

They have mentioned budgets a lot this episode and previously BUT they haven’t actually said the actual amount each team has for each renovation

I’ve noticed that too. No set amount has been mentioned. All that we know that winning team from the room reveals on Sunday won an extra $5,000.

I think it was $5k cash & also $5k for tradies i think

Shut the front gate!

Taeler and Elle block all access to the front yard and entrance

Tonight on Dream Home: Two teams adopted a controversial “no doors” policy with their renovated spaces, while Taeler and Elle came to blows with head builder, Luca, after the sisters blocked access to the front yard of Mel and Brad’s Northcote home.

Watsonia Homeowners: Taeler and Elle

Renovators: Brad and Mel; Lara and Peter; Rhys and Liam

Lara and Peter continued with their plans to deliver a contemporary Scandi-inspired facade with timber cladding and a landscaped garden. Worried she didn’t have enough plants to fill the space, Lara approached Rhys and Liam for some cash. The brothers obliged with $2000, agreeing the front of the house needed to look amazing.

While Rhys worked his tiling magic in the ensuite, Liam struggled with the study; the smallest space was proving to be the most difficult.

Determined to deliver on Elle’s luxe brief for a master bedroom and walk-in robe, Brad and Mel purchased art, a chandelier and a bed – totally smashing their budget. With only $61 left in their pocket and still to pay trades, the pair realised they needed to return the luxurious bed.

Host Dr Chris Brown paid a visit to the site and questioned some controversial design decisions. Brad and Mel decided against doors on their wardrobe, arguing it would compromise the luxe feel, while Rhys and Liam chose not to include a door in their bathroom, saying it was like an art installation and deserved to be seen!

Northcote Homeowners: Brad and Mel

Renovators: Taeler and Elle; Hannah and Jonny; Jordan and Jacinta

Taeler and Elle tackled the facade and 12-year-old Ginger’s bedroom but were nervous about preparing an age-appropriate room. Motivated by an artwork purchase, the girls settled on lilac and purple themes for the room.

Jacinta and Jordan were thrilled to see the plasterboard sheeting on the bedroom walls, but Jordan had to work through the night painting undercoat to ensure the space would be ready for the Venetian plastering.

With the Venetian plaster underway, Jacinta went shopping and, in a stroke of good fortune, selected the very same bed that Brad and Mel were forced to return from the Watsonia home.

Returning home, Jacinta discovered that sisters Taeler and Elle had sealed off the front of the house after growing tired of the front yard being used as a communal storage and workshop area.

This immediately caused friction with other teams and head builder, Luca, who refused to speak with the sisters.

Based on the proms is this turning into just one big reveal show?

In this episode of Dream Home, the teams are haunted by old budget decisions, face risky pink designs, and when a secret is revealed, the teams are rocked to their core.

Well it was as planned.

Did anyone really think this was going to work?

In the era of belt tightening on most networks balance sheets, it’s quite puzzling why they keep investing on these ‘has been’ programs.

What are you taking about? Perth love it :man_shrugging:

Game on!

Taeler and Elle reveal their ruthless competition strategy

This is the week Australia has been waiting for. Not one, but two completed dream homes will be revealed 7.00pm, Sunday on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Judges Simon Cohen, Rosie Morley and Lana Taylor will cast their expert eyes over the contestant’s hard work at the finished Northcote and Watsonia renovations.

And then, there will be tears from the front door to every room in the house as Brad and Mel and Taeler and Elle, see their completed dream homes for the very first time.

But it won’t all be happy tears. Determined to keep their place at the top of the leaderboard at all costs, Taeler and Elle declare they’re prepared to do whatever it takes.

“We need to be selfish….that’s the game we play,” admits Taeler.

It’s a brash strategy that will pit them against Lara and Peter, who have accused the sisters of being “fake” and putting their place in the competition ahead of doing the best possible job for their fellow contestants and their dream homes.

Dream Home *7.00pm Sunday, continuing 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus
