The Doctor Who festive special will see the return of one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies –the Daleks. Viewers last saw the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) at the end of season 12 where her fate was left hanging in the balance as she was locked away in a high-security alien prison, isolated, alone, with no hope of escape.

Her best friends, Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) are far away on Earth and having to carry on with their lives without her. But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek. How can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor?

Even with Captain Jack’s (John Barrowman) help, the gang are set to face one of their biggest and most frightening challenges yet…

The Doctor Who festive special episode will see a host of exciting guest artists including John Barrowman MBE who will be reprising his role as Captain Jack Harkness alongside Chris Noth who will be back as the disgraced Jack Robertson.

Chris Noth previously appeared in the season 11 episode ‘Arachnids in the UK’ and it’s safe to say the Doctor and all those involved were less than impressed by his questionable actions. However, viewers will have to wait and see just what brings him back this time…

Star of the stage and screen Dame Harriet Walter will also be making her Doctor Who debut for the festive special alongside television star Nathan Stewart-Jarrett who has recently appeared in The Trial of Christine Keeler.

Production credits: Doctor Who is a BBC Production. Showrunner: Chris Chibnall

I can see why the ABC scheduled Revolution of the Daleks to launch the new TV Plus channel, but it also means the episode won’t be shown in HD. I will rather catch up on iView.

Update: Doctor Who: Revolution Of The Daleks will also be shown on ABC TV - so a simulcast for ABC.

Can’t see the reason anyone would watch on “ABC 2” rather than “ABC 1”.

It’s been reported that Revolution of the Daleks will see the exits of two characters: Bradley Walsh’s Graham (also known to Aussie audiences as host of The Chase UK) and Tosin Cole’s Ryan.

UPDATE 2/1: Bradley and Tosin will be replaced by comedian John Bishop.

In Britain, Revolution of the Daleks averaged 4.69 million viewers on BBC1 on New Year’s Day, lower than the previous festive special Resolution which pulled 5.15 million in 2019.

When contacted by Digital Spy , the BBC responded: “We won’t be commenting on any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show.”

Rumours of her departure follow Whittaker’s former Doctor Who co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole recently bowing out from the series.

Comedian John Bishop will take their place, having been recently announced as the Doctor’s new season 13 companion, Dan.

Programming note form ABC TV Plus -

From 3 May, Doctor Who will move from its 8pm time slot to later in the evening to allow audiences access to a broad range of content across the evening.

Besides that, the BBC recently reported that the current season was shortened due to problems with the coronavirus. Jodie Whittaker will then be doing a series of Doctor Who specials which should run the length of 2022, using the scripts intended for the rest of the season which was originally set to screen with the 2021 season.

So there will not be a new Doctor Who until 2023.

A new trailer for the 13th series was revealed at the virtual Comic-Con@Home.

Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm in Game of Thrones) will join the series as Vinder.

Having been in charge of the TARDIS since filming for the Thirteenth Doctor began in 2017, Showrunner Chris Chibnall and the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, have confirmed they will be moving on from the most famous police box on Earth - and the universe.

With a six-part Event Serial announced for the autumn, and two Specials already planned for 2022, BBC One has now asked for an additional final feature-length adventure for the Thirteenth Doctor, to form a trio of Specials for 2022, before the Doctor regenerates once more.
