There may or may not be a correlation, but there is a boycott against the film due to the leading star expressing support for Hong Kong police against pro-democracy protesters.

Mulan currently has an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
I will still be watching Mulan if I have the chance. I support pro-democracy protesters but Liu Yifei voicing support for local police needs to be separated from her acting talent.

Doogie is quite the unisex name.
I feel like any grumbles about a change in gender for the lead are going to come from people that aren’t the target audience anyway.
How is it unisex? Doogie and Dougie are nicknames for Douglas.
