Nine Melb are really dragging the chain clogging up their bandwidth with Mpeg-2 SD guff.

Pic quality is noticeably much better on WIN Vic channels.

Yep. Was watching 9Go Melbourne last night and the compression was noticable. MPEG2 streams really need to be dropped.

Due to tower structural works at the TXA Artarmon site, my office for up to the next 6 months has been moved into the NPC DR facility, & something I noticed yesterday but didn’t realise before, is that Nine Metro (not NBN) Gold Coast has it’s own separate feed to Brisbane & if you watch the Today show in the morning, under the Today logo on the bottom left of screen where the clock is, it will say Gold Coast on the Gold Coast Nine channel & Brisbane on the Brisbane Nine channel, whereas on the NSW Central Coast, they don’t have a separate Metro feed, Nine Central Coast is just Nine Sydney, rebroadcast from the Sydney off air signal.

What other differences between Nine Gold Coast & Nine Brisbane feeds are I haven’t discovered yet?

NPC plays out both Nine Metro & NBN NNSW/Gold Coast, but all the Nine Metro screens are bundled together separately to the NBN screens & Nine Metro definitely has a separate Gold Coast named feed screen to Brisbane.

I don’t have any photos & I’m not in the office everyday, (not there today), so can’t investigate further on what other locations may have different feeds coming out of NPC to what you’d expect?

The Mt Nardi DTV signals are available at street level north of Klumpp Road and west of Logan Rd for those elevated streets on the side of Mt Gravatt. @NRN11 would have to confirm his friend’s set up.

Before Prime gave up on the Gold Coast in 2000 and when broadcasting rights were different (all AFL matches on Prime’s GC signals), the Gabba itself and surrounding venues had high gain and masthead amp setups to receive matches. Glorious analogue days.

Point Lookout receives all GC DTV signals. It’s also in less of a null at that angle.

I notice that the vehicular ferry to Stradbroke uses GC channels on the TVs even though you can see the Mount Coot-Tha towers from the water. It’s probably easier to use a smaller UHF array for reception on the boat.

I set up a friend’s house to receive Prime as they were AFL fans from Victoria. The reception was perfect - and the one antenna also received all the Brisbane channel;s as broadcast to the GC so it worked out very well.

Jim Chalmers is not going to buy you a new STB. If you’re nice, his staff will suggest an op shop to buy one.

Same on the passenger only Straddie Flyer. Returned one day, 7 GC news on. Good on 7 for axing it, saves money on a low quality product (9 GC news isn’t much better).

Never had this problem back in the analogue, CRT days. I’d say all the LED RF (spurious emissions) has added to noise.

Fast internet is far more prevalent in NZ than Aus. Sky should go IP only.

SCA 9 Spencer Gulf comes from NPC too, I believe. I wonder if it’s just a dirty Adelaide feed or if they actually insert local advertising?

I don’t think this has been mentioned yet, but the Remote Central & Eastern broadcasters switched their terrestrial services to MPEG-4 late last year.

Local advertising, 2 feeds 1 for Port Lincoln/Broken Hill and 1 for upper Spencer Gulf.
Gem, Go and Life also local advertising with the 1 feed.

As we approach the gradual end of SCA’s television operations, would this be an accurate breakdown of current playout facilities?

Only ones I can’t find: do the 10 joint ventures come from MediaHub or NPC? Have the old Prime/GWN stations shifted to NPC or are they still at MediaHub?

MediaHub, Ingleburn (ABC/WIN)
ABC TV
WIN
Imparja
10 Metro
10 joint ventures??

NPC Media, Frenchs Forest (Seven/Nine)
Seven O&O (including former Prime/GWN?)
Seven SCA
Nine O&O
10 SCA

MediaCloud, Cockburn (Telstra)
SBS TV

Edit: fixed SCA as NPC

They are at neither IIRC - last thing I heard they were at the same place as SBS

To my knowledge, but some things maybe changing soon.

MediaHub

ABC TV
Seven SCA
Seven Regional (ex PrimeTV)?
9 WIN
Imparja
10 Metro (DR backup only)
10 WIN NNSW
10 Joint Ventures?

NPC Media
Seven Metro
Nine Metro/NBN NNSW
10 SCA (I believe it may soon be in house at 10 Pyrmont) not sure what will happen to NPC play-out, might become DR?

MediaCloud
SBS TV

ABC TV DR is moving from the middle of the year, but I’m not sure I’m allowed to give any more details of that yet?

I thought ex-Prime/GWN was TBS/Mediacloud.

Where is 7 QLD? Are they with 7 Metro at NPC?

Ex Prime might be at MediaCloud?
7Qld I think is at NPC but I’m not 100% sure on that?

Interesting that Telstra has never been able to pick up anymore FTA playout than SBS??

It shows how tightly serviced broadcasting is, having run with the same owners for so many years. You also have to wonder how strong the outsourced Playout proposition is when a cash strapped place like 10 keeps their Playout in-house. Bet the 10 Exec’s MBA lectures never covered the risks of JV’s like TxA, particularly if you ever went broke.

As far as I know, all of SCA’s services, including the JV’s, were moved to NPC when they shut down their Canberra operations. The only exceptions are the VAST news channels which went to MediaHub.
