It would depend on the signal strength. Antennas in medium strength areas would be a compromise and not need to have full length elements.
Until about 6 months ago I still had the Channel 0 elements on my antenna and many houses in Brisbane still get by with their analogue antennas - that was one of the goals of the switch to digital that most areas could get by with original equipment.
In theory the 0 elements would be 4.5 times longer than channel 10 elements. That also meant that for a basic dipole antenna the signal for 0 would be that much stronger than 7, 9 and 10. Of course manufacturers would compensate for that in antenna design (more elements for the high channel numbers), but in the field the 0 signal could be received further afield.
Now would be a great opportunity for ABC to start proper time sharing with separate LCN’s. The channel name ABC Comedy/KIDS is awfully long and an even more confusing blend of genres than ABC2/KIDS. I’d like to see a rearrangement like this:
It would mean ABC News loses its LCN 24 slot but as it’s no longer part of their branding it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Maybe this was part of the grand plan anyway? Dropping of 1, 3 and 24 from the brands so they can be more flexible with channel numbers?
Not really, ABC Kids is for the babies and toddlers and ABC Me for the kids up to teens. Quite a difference in the age levels of the shows although there are some double ups.
The result is minimal channel number interference (Kids stays on 22, we keep “Me on 3”, and News stays on 24). Screwing around with long-standing channel numbers will only frustrate (and likely confuse) viewers.
Well I would arrange it as follows (seeings as everyone is jumping on the “me too” bandwagon)
2 - ABC HD MPEG4
20 - ABC SD
21 - ABC Kids
22 - ABC ME
23 - ABC Comedy MPEG4 running 24/7
24 - ABC News MPEG4
Good news (well, for me anyway, selfishly ) the smaller Hisense in the bedroom however does have MPEG4 it seems, receiving all 7flix, Racing & HD channels.
No Racing.com and 7flix is grounds for a refund. I suggest you confront the manager, and record it so my lawyers and I can “begin work” on your behalf.
I once took the Crown Plaza Alice Springs to the High Court over the lack of Nine Guide in my room.
What’s worse: An accommodation TV that couldn’t receive the MPEG4 channels or dodgy analogue quality Pay TV channels in 4.3 stretched to 16.9? I personally think they’re about equal.
