Digital Radio - Content

I used to own a Denon CD mixer for deejaying a couple of decades ago. It was an excellent brand.

It is clear that BOG I noticed does not care about streaming their content online other than their main station 2sm. The Other Super network stations do not stream online for some strange and unknown reasons

I am waiting for them to fix this and put ZOO/Fun back online

Hopelly ARN does not sell 4kq to BOG for this reason

These days the Denon DJ division is a separate entity with the brand licensed to inMusic brands (who also own Rane, Numark, Akai Professional, Denon and Marantz professional) and unfortunately their recent products especially the Prime series aren’t known for their reliability with buggy Engine OS updates (their internal OS).

Even Pioneer DJ isn’t the same Pioneer with the division spun off and subsequently sold to a photo mini lab company.

I have this system: Hi-Fi SC-PMX92GN-S - Panasonic Australia and a real pity I can’t orient the antenna to capture The Wave at 96 kbps (sounds cleaner and crisper than playing from my smartphone via bluebooth the few times it came through).

But here in Perth Coles Radio at 32 kbps sounds amazingly good as does Smooth FM on 48 kbps. But My Perth Digital also on 48 kbps sounds more muffled. It does go to show that both audio processing not just encoding is important as is your receiver and speakers.

The BOG regionals stopped streaming a few years ago when regional commercial radio stations had a dispute with APRA/AMCOS over streaming royalties. Although it was resolved two years after, BOG refused to switch live streaming back on and still do to this day. Also may be because Bill didn’t want to cough up the extra costs involved in putting streaming on his stations.

It’s a real shame as Fun, Zoo, Gorilla and ZZZ would be great to have streamed online at work or on the Radio App.

Of the regionals, I thought only 2HD and NEW ever streamed, any other links on the BOG AM web pages pointed to the 2SM stream.

They’re a bit a throwback to the ancient Yahoo and Geocities type pages aren’t they!

With Mike E & Emma now seemingly headlining The Hit Networks RnB Fridays DAB+ station, it got me thinking, what other DAB+ only stations have live announcers/shows?

Tik Tok Trending has a few shows and so does Coles Radio, CW Remix and 2CH

Are any of those actually live though?

Pretty sure Double J has quite a few shows live, and I believe ABC Jazz might as well, but I thought most of the commercial ones are just voice tracked.

Triple M 90s constantly runs promos talking up Ella Hooper’s role on the station - but I’ve never heard anything other than a promo, never actual program content with her anchoring, voice tracked or otherwise.

MMM Classic Rock has Alice Cooper at nights, MMM 90s has Ella Hooper during the day, Oldskool 90s Hits has Danni Minogue during the day.

Double J, 2CH, Coles, CW Remix, MTV all have announcers (some would be live and others voice tracked).

I think we’ll see a lot more stations introduce live talent onto DAB+ in the near future. I believe the bigger players are starting to see DAB is gaining traction and money is to be made. I listened to Smooth Relax over the weekend and heard ads playing.

I’m sure I did hear an announcer on one of the MMM ones last year. 2CH of course would be the most ‘live’ DAB station. Most afternoons I pop into Coles I hear an announcer and same with Smooth FM DAB in Brisbane. I’ve heard Bogart Torelli in the afternoons.

2022 might be the year of DAB growth in Australia?

They’re just sweepers.

They’re pre-recorded voiceovers, not just sweepers. Similar to Coles radio, Magic DAB+, Smooth Fm,
