As ACE haven’t bought the licence, I assume it would all depend on the lease agreement between ACE and 9Radio, who can lease whatever portion of DAB they desire. My gut feel, with no evidence apart from the fact the 6GT goes off air and 2UE & 4BH logos refer to DAB, is that ACE have leased an agreed bitrate for the purpose of simulcast only. How much that is, no idea. Could be completely wrong and some form of CoastFM/MixxFM/Edge/TRFM might be on the airwaves (but I doubt it).
On dab+ they have 80”s 90s station why doesn’t 3mp or magic make a 50s sixties pop music station even modern audiences might like it
That’s right. I guess we will soon find out.
Soooo I was looking through stations to listen to on Online Radio Box app, and low and behold, there’s a station called Koool. (Got killed off in 2018 like Aussie Digital) Same logo! I couldn’t click on it fast enough.
Seems to be the same mix style of songs, the sweepers are different, so hard to tell if it’s the same crowd or not, the app shows they are in Diamond Creek (VIC). Quite possibly someone’s just ripped the logo and name to use for themselves.
That being said, I’m enjoying it so far! (And no bloody ads like Digital radio was in the beginning!)
SEN must have sold off the trademark “Koool” to the company who currently run this live stream. There is no “Koool” trademark as it applies to radio in IP Australia. It is also noted they also transmit on 88.0MHz in the vicinity of Diamond Creek.
How could they have sold a trademark that doesn’t exist.
Being a digital only station it’s likely the brand was never trademaked, SEN don’t care about it and this streamer/narrowcaster is just doing whatever they want. There’ll likely be no consequences. The worst there could be at this point is a cease and desist letter followed by a name change.

Turns out Koool Digital and 88.0 Diamond Creek are owned by Mark Neilson, who has worked as a broadcast tech as several major networks. He was at SEN between 2008 and 2013 so would have been directly involved with Koool, so it’s likely all is above board with him using that brand now.
Good reason to download VLC for Android again (to play the m3u file)?
When I do it confirms the 32 kbps AAC/SBR quality of the audio … hmm
Can nova put all their digital stations on to digital radio sc Austereo have heaps of stations and on radio all of them so why not nova with theirs
As of 11.25 PM all the ARN Digital stations are off air.
Where? In Sydney?
Yes Sydney, back on air now.
Hopefully it will be at least 96 kbs, which will give ACE the spectrum to broadcast both channels (easy listening and classic hits) on 48 kbs each.
I’m not sure what the purpose is of Nine keeping 184 kbs of spectrum for 1 talk station + NTS? Doesn’t make sense (with 2UE/4BH and Magic on 72 kbs).
No, due to lack of spectrum. They only have 2 in each market (except Perth) with all of them streaming online. They also have Radio Maria in Sydney and Melbourne.
All the music on ABC Radio Sydney DAB tonight seems to be mono… it always used to be stereo in my experience.
SEN have added a new station on DAB+ in Brisbane called ‘SENQ’, and Niche Radio has expanded its offering in Sydney with 2 stations (NR1 and NR2).
Meanwhile all the BOG DAB+ stations, apart from 2SM, are off air in Sydney.
SENQ seemingly is on the 4TAB spectrum - surprising somewhat as I would have thought SEN Track is competition to them. I assume there’s zero promotion of its existence, but I wonder if it will pop up in the ratings?
Hopefully that’s enough for them though and they’ll see no need to buy 4KQ.
I find it odd Niche Radio managed to pop up in Perth, but SEN haven’t found their way on DAB there, I would have thought they’d have had more cash to splash than Niche.
Money talks!
