Good to see Media Spy is at the forefront of popular culture.
How does that compare to the Git Rebase?
I know what you mean, but for some odd reason I love the ARN 80s station on DAB, even though the playlist isn’t a particularly wide one.
But they still often play tracks that are rarely heard on FM, and what they do play is pretty good.
It’s also not often I find myself changing stations to escape certain songs.
Yes, it’s strange how it’s not going to be in 5 metro markets. Maybe ARN will test it in Sydney and Perth before bringing it to Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
If it is going to be CHR it also has the potential to take audience off 2Day FM, Nova, KIIS and possibly even The Edge.
The same can be said for Triple M Classic Rock and 2UE 954. 2UE is skewed older but they play some really good 70s and 80s tracks.
I would suggest Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide will be set up on Monday.
The Edge runs a quick mix of the top trending TikTok tracks around 7pm weekdays, so maybe this station will be a bit of a offshoot of The Edge.
Can’t talk for other members, but I do like to keep “forefront-adjacent” to popular culture and the latest memes - it allows me to converse with the younger folk in my office
Nothing compares to a rebase!
The Edge Of The Edge?
Maybe it will replace Edge Digital?
I can’t see that happening in Sydney.
Agreed. Can’t see ARN removing The Edge from Sydney DAB+ when the rating surveys show that it’s consistently popular here…of course likely because many who tick “Edge Digital” in the books are probably actually listening to 96.1FM, but still!
Which is what makes these stations (Soundcloud/TikTok) strange - they should be brand extension stations - like how Chemist Warehouse linked to the Mix brand originally, with being Mix 90s and then remix complete with Mix logo.
Especially with these two where it’s formats that are if successful likely to grab audience from their own stations - surely you want to create the connection with your brands - same reason the station that streams on iHeart as “The 80s” has 5 different brands around the country when on DAB+ (Gold 80s etc.)
So if The Edge is their closest brand, use it - ‘The Edge TikTok Trending’ or I suppose ‘Edge TikTokTrend’ to fit in the label. Similarly ‘SoundCloud Hits’.
Coles Radio is fine as there’s no real overlap in formats with Nova/Smooth, but clearly these music discovery stations should be linked to their music brands.
‘Coming Soon’ is now “TikTok Trending” here on Perth DAB+, but still playing the same harmonic hum, in case there were any lingering doubts.
Also on air in Brisbane.
It makes sense for ARN to put it in all the 5 metro markets.
SoundCloud is not part of the Hit network or Triple M network, it’s a standalone station, a partnership between SCA and SoundCloud.
Likewise TikTok radio would not be connected to The Edge. They are both on iHeartRadio but likely to be programmed independently.
I’m saying it should be something they connect to their existing brands, not that it is.
I don’t think it makes sense to be making deals with competing formats without including some kind of co-branding. Right now there’s no way for a listener to make a connection to the wider SCA or ARN networks through these stations - which is a missed opportunity.
While they didn’t keep it up after the KIIS rebrand, the CW Remix example shows you can integrate both the client brand and the network brand effectively.
Not sure if this is the correct thread, or even if there is a dedicated one.
We have CW Remix for Chemist Warehouse
We have Coles Radio for Coles
Well we have Puma petrol station down the radio, not one of the common brands, but every time I fuel they have the radio blaring above the bowsers, and today (right above my head) they announced “Puma Radio”. Such a thing? Maybe a Puma Radio should be on DAB+ too!
Probably just an in store station streamed using private URLs?
(as Google doesn’t suggest any such station available publicly).
