Did They Really Just Play That?

My baby takes the morning train! Actually not a bad song

Will always remind me of the 2004 film EuroTrip!

Normally WSFM/Gold rarely play songs as recent or as new as this. Maybe they’re going in a new direction as far as their music is concerned?

Wouldn’t be surprised if they started playing (for example) “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus on the station soon enough.

“Flowers” is a good pop song and would sit well in their playlist… But there would only be a handful of recent songs I’d include… Taylor Swifts “Love Story” is another.

I think there’s definitely room to skew a little younger in some of their music rotate. Chappell Roan has a 80s sound which won’t feel too out of place on air.

They play The Script’s Hall of Fame and that was released four years after Love Story.

These days, that song only gets played infrequently on C91.3FM (in Sydney) and Hope 103.2 (which also sometimes plays “Superheroes” as well).

Anyway, I got to see The Script in Sydney on Thursday night and they closed their show with that song, as they also did in 2022.

The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin was played on Triple J just nearly 40 minutes ago. A symphonic rock classic but kind of unusual for a youth station to play this during JJJ’s current era.

Lovefool by The Cardigans playing on 2NUR Newcastle 103.7 FM just now.

I think that’s a good fit for their music format really.

Whilst driving home from work this evening i had 2NUR FM on and one of the songs that played was Everywhere You Go by Taxiride. Wouldn’t have thought that would be one on their playlist.

They play heaps of stuff that you don’t hear anywhere else.

Probably not really “easy listening” but a lot of their songs aren’t either.

I prefer 2NUR over Triple M.

At around 1:00 PM yesterday as I was listening to NEW FM 105.3 FM when I was on my lunch break, they preceded Bryan Adams’ “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started” with the NEW FM “Eighties Flashback” bumper (which had Doc Brown from Back to The Future shouting “Great Scott!”). Little did the folks at NEW FM know that the aforementioned song was released in 1991, Two years after the eighties ended. Surely they would’ve played “Run To You,” “Heaven” or the umpteenth playing of “Summer of ‘69”, but nope.

Interestingly I recently attended a Bryan Adams concert and the 80s songs that got the biggest audience response were Somebody and Cuts Like A Knife

It’s a pity you can’t stop this course they’ve plotted.

Definitely from 1991 as I remember it on Rage. Don’t remember anything from prior to 1990.

During OC’s show they played The Black Eyed Peas: I’ve Got A Feeling.

This was posted this morning to YT; check the ‘Broadcasting Australia’ channel. If they are a contributor here, thanks for the airchecks.

Just right about now, New FM 105.3 and HIT 106.9 Newcastle were playing Bed Chem by Sabrina Carpenter both at just at the same time.

Nothing against him nor the song, but at 7:12pm on smooth 95.3 I heard “Want to Want Me” by Jason Derulo. Don’t think I’d ever heard his music on the station before.

Just after 7:45pm on smoothfm this evening…
