Reminds me of when WPLJ when from Hot AC to Modern AC. Now WPLJ (along with KHMX - the inspiration for Sydney’s Mix 106.5) was pretty much the inventor of the Hot AC format, but after a while when it got a little tired (very little new music, just the same old tired tracks over and over) they switched to Modern AC.
Now two things. Firstly they dayparted - so interesting the new tracks you heard were after 7PM at night (even with Dolly involved). Secondly, they also dropped 70s. Now when WPLJ went from Hot AC to Modern AC it was 1999. But in many respects, funnily enough, that would still be relevant. So I’d be intrigued to see if there’s any ‘drop off’ at the lower end.
About halfway through the second half of the Raiders vs Broncos NRL game in Canberra, I could hear the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” through the stadium speakers (I am watching the game on Fox League).
Probably appropriate given the Raiders are giving the Broncos a nice old towel up at the moment, the home fans in the national capital would be loving it.
Heard Breathless by The Corrs on Triple M Newcastle 102.9 FM earlier this morning as part of Triple M Regional’s Mystery 9 at 9 with today’s theme being Irish musicians due to today being St Patrick’s Day. A weird selection indeed.
Yep, the uncensored version of Poker Face made it to air on commercial radio. Heard during the KIIS Mix this evening. Did the folks behind this mix forget that there clearly is a clean version for radio?
I wonder if this topic could extend to songs being played at sporting events…
Because with four minutes to go in the Broncos vs Cowboys match, after the Cowboys scored a try, they played “Taste” by Sabrina Carpenter through the Suncorp Stadium speakers. And just a few minutes later, “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone.
Quite possibly. Watching the cricket today I heard:
Netherworld dancing toys - for today
Pretty much a staple. One of the worst days in Aotearoa cricket. The White Ferns smashed by Australia and the Black Caps absolutely pounded by Pakistan.
But at least we has the Netherworld dancing toys (with Annie Crummer).
Heard “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera on Triple M Regional’s “Double Shot Tuesday” via Triple M Newcastle with “Harder to Breathe” preceding it. I have heard this on the Regional M’s in the past but it’s more of a Hit Network song.
