Mix has a habit of doing this. This is why I like this station
Earlier today, Triple M Newcastle played âRoll with Itâ by Oasis as part of an Oasis Ticket giveaway on the Tanya and Steve morning show in the middle of Triple Mâs Awesome 80s Friday as the song was released in 1995. A bit too late for the 80s decade donât you think?
Almost like the return of Oasis to Australia takes precedence over the 400th spin of Kokomo.
Definitely maybe. But donât look back in anger.
This morning (11/10) Gold 104.3 played Ed Sheeranâs Shape of You.
I can wear that being played in 2034 but not 2024!
I donât get why that Ed Sheeran song was as big as it was. I personally think itâs one of the most boring songs ever! An instant station changer!
I donât really agree. I like a few selected new songs mixed in to a classic hits playlist.
I was listening to Breeze this morning and they played Kiss Me / Dermott Kennedy following a Beatles track (Donât Let Me Down) I loved it. I much prefer a wide variety of decades like that. I grew up with âHits & Memoriesâ radio in the 70s and 80s
Agree, but as you said, the key word is âselectedâ⌠trouble is, there arenât many new songs around these days that sit well mixed in with a predominantly classic hits playlistâŚ
Yeah perhaps. Breeze seems to find them though. They probably only play 1 new song per hour and they always seem to find ones I like.

you know youâre getting on in years when you hear Ed Sheeran on Gold, I can remember when they played Beatles, Stones and Elvis in the early years under the Gold name!

Nah thatâs not it. Gold used to be the station with all the âdaggy old musicâ your parents would know and love, never 7-year-old songs. Ed Sheeran song is not old, so I agree itâs more of a 2034 thing, at the least. Gold has changed.
Ed Sheeran is probably the poster child for an âadult radio friendlyâ modern artist, so I wouldnât read too much into it. His uber-popularity allows him to reach just about every station, similar to Mariah Carey in the 90s or Michael Jackson in the 80s (and indeed, The Beatles in the 60s).
True, though his music is pretty bland to my ears. But I guess thatâs the key, inoffensively bland as opposed to utterly change the station intolerable.

Didnât they have a rule that they only played songs older than 20 years old?
Donât know if that was ever a strict rule but I definitely remember it sounding something like that.
Is it Requestival?
Triple J currently playing âRockitâ by Herbie Hancock, released waay back in 1984.
Sounds more suitable for 107.7 Goulburn than 107.7 Brisbane or 101.5 Forster than 101.5 Canberra or even 88.7 Camden than 88.7 Goulburn
Triple J played Heros by David Bowie a few days ago. First time Iâve ever heard them play something from the 70âs.

Used to be the theme song of Merrick and Rossoâs show when they were on JJJ just before they moved to Nova.
Didnât know that! Thanks.
