Yesterday afternoon around 12:20 PM on Triple M Newcastle (and other regional Triple M stations), they played Bon Jovi’s new single “Legendary” from their upcoming album “Forever” smack bang in the middle of Triple M’s Awesome 80s Friday. They then followed up with “Livin’ On a Prayer”(their most flogged song on the network) and the announcer said that they had to “break the rules a bit” to play Bon Jovi’s new song.
Just before 8:30pm this evening on WSFM…
This song is close to five years old.
I’m surprised i haven’t heard them play Taylor Swift yet, but surely can’t be long.
She’ll be “Classic Hits” fodder in the coming years/decades
WSFM have been playing “Love Story” for quite some time now, as have smoothfm.
And here’s another one which I think is quite out of place…
I disagree. I like a small amount of current and recent hits mixed in to predominantly classic hits formats. Stations like The Breeze do it all the time and it sounds great. Even 4KQ used to be a “Greatest memories & latest hits” format in the early 90s. Smooth do it too, although strangely not as much as they used to, they seem 90s obsessed these days.
I think Shape Of You and the Lewis Capaldi song fit the Pure Gold format.
In recent times though, WSFM have played some timeless noughties rock classics such as:
- “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi
- “Drops of Jupiter” by Train
- “Hanging by a Moment” by Lifehouse
- “How You Remind Me” by Nickelback
- “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling
Wouldn’t be surprised if I start hearing “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic on the station, though it is still relatively fresh (not new, though).
WSFM used to be more like that in the 1990s, but moved away from that from about 2000 onwards.
All of these songs belong in the “Oh NO Not that Song Again “ thread for me👎
Lewis Capaldi certainly is OH NO NOT AGAIN fodder, especially when someone at work then changes from radio to their own Spotify feed and that comes on as often as (s)HIT repeats their daily playlist.
Marvellous by the 12th man on 2ST 102.9 fm.
Would have been during their Retro 20/20 Countdown where the theme tonight was artists with numbers in their name, as they also played 4 Non Blondes, Haircut 100 and Stars on 45 (and no doubt others too).
Correct, only on the retro countdown would they play that track in 2st.
On Triple J Hottest at 9:30pm this evening…
This was a JJJ classic at the time and definitely made the Hottest 100 too (2010, I think?)
Yep, got to #11 in the 2010 countdown.
Coincidentally, the ABC News remix by Pendulum was released in June 2010, just before the ABC News channel was launched a month later.
Many of our younger members will remember the original iconic ABC News theme which existed between 1985 and 2005.
Many of our younger members will remember the original iconic ABC News theme which existed between 1985 and 2005.
Although the iconic 1985 ABC News theme would be rearranged in 1998 which is the one i do solely remember from my childhood.
That’s the one I remember too. Always preferred this one over the 1985-97 theme.
