Did They Really Just Play That?

Regional Triple M’s also played Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” earlier as well.

Those two songs :face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting:

I much prefer the Matthew Wilder original.

Also two hours ago, the Triple M Regional Summer 600 countdown via MMM 102.9 Newcastle played this Clanger that got flogged ten years ago and still now.

Just recently the Triple M Regionals Summer 600 countdown via Triple M Newcastle 102.9 played “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. Another song that got flogged many times in the latter half of the 2010s.

To be honest I don’t really mind that song, though I must agree that it does get overplayed time and time again despite it about to turn eight years old this year.

Speaking of Justin Timberlake, he is releasing a new song titled “Selfish” today. It drops at midnight New York time (4:00pm Syd/Melb time).

Ironically enough it was by the use of this song advertising HIT’s programming that made it worse.

The most annoying thing is the Pat Benatar song following. All Fired Up is so over-flogged when she has so, SO many great songs to choose from! It’s stuff like that that turns me off mainstream commercial FM. Why wouldn’t they play some of her other huge hits?

And even “All Fired Up” is a cover version. Here is the original 1987 version by Australia’s own Rattling Sabres https://youtu.be/kV1ELKBGpu8?si=xITZxyLR90vyFfou

Triple M’s Nights with Dave Gleeson recently played “Nookie” by Limp Bizkit. Whenever Triple M metro stations play Limp Bizkit they always go for that reviled “The Who” cover but it’s really bewildering to hear them play their other signature song which was a Triple J staple in 1999/2000.

Personally, I don’t mind that song actually, but I think I’m in the minority here!

Triple M 2000s played On Call by Kings Of Leon today. Don’t think I’ve heard that one for about 15 years!

I actually knew that song before Kings of Leon released their 2008 smash hit, “Sex on Fire”, putting them on the music map in the process.

The song you just mentioned was featured on So Fresh: The Hits of Winter 2007.

Which begs the question: did anyone know Taylor Swift before she launched herself into the conscience of Australian music fans with 2008’s “Love Story”?

Mix94.5 playing Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble”, which is normal, but they’ve chosen to play the memey goat scream version in one of the chorus sequences

I have that CD somewhere! That’s where I would have first heard it.
