Did They Really Just Play That?

Well i managed to avoid being Whammed! until just now.

“Last Christmas” now playing on Smooth FM.

Rubbish song and band. Ace probably think it’s an easy testing song, much better ways to modernise their classic hits playlist.

Heard this today perhaps for the first time but realised that the first 20 seconds were used by BTQ 7 as a Christmas ident in the 1970s.

Before 6pm yesterday, I heard C91.3 play “Oh Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison. That’s a song that not even WS plays anymore.

there are few early mornings when 91fm Saigon’s playlist would feature this song, as well as many Beatles, few Sinatra, some Aretha Franklin, Paul Anka and Motown too.

On 91fm Hanoi at around the same time they also have the same block, but presented differently (the Saigon version only has voice over during the start and end of the block, while the Hanoi version have presenters telling which songs would be played next).

The only thing that baffled me that while they play a lot of Sinatra, the Hanoi presenter keep referring to these songs are “soft country songs” (wtf??)

I had the misfortune of running into two Whitney Houston ballads in a row last night.

“I Will Always Love You” was playing on Coast FM Gosford - instant station changer so I went 1 mhz down the dial and landed on Smooth and instantly ran into “Where Do Broken Hearts Go?”. Arrgh!

I love her upbeat pop songs, but find most of her ballads intolerable. “The Greatest Love Of All” is an exception.

A Vietnamese lyric version of Saving all my love for you once aired during The Nostalgic Songs on 91fm. It’s very rare (there’s only one video of that on YouTube), and even softer than the original version, maybe to fit with the typical atmosphere of Vietnamese songs at that time - soft and melodic.

Can’t stand I Will Always Love You but I must admit I quite like Where Do Broken Hearts Go.

And I also don’t like Great Love Of All :grinning:

Gold 104.3 played these tunes this morning that I had never heard at all before today. Very close to each other as well.

She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby
Made My Day - Tim Finn

Yep.

On Triple M Metro and Regionals right now on Dave Gleeson’s Top 50 party songs is Denis Leary’s A**hole.

Hardly a party song. Unless you want to be bashed over the head with a beer bottle.

its a great song thought it was to hard for the regionals did it really play on the regionals

Indeed it was as the regionals took Dave Gleeson’s Top 50 Party Songs Countdown list on New Year’s Eve, another bizarre song which made the countdown was “A.L.T and the Lost Civilisations” hip hop rendition of “Tequila” which reached number 8 on the Aria charts in 1993.
The number one song on the countdown was Long Way to the Top - AC/DC as always.

I dunno. You can have a lot of fun driving real slow in the ultra fast lane (if you’re a prick).

Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi on smooth 91.5, is that normal or is that to compete with Gold?

Think I’ve heard that one on smooth 95.3 in Sydney before.

It doesn’t surprise me unfortunately. It’s one of the reasons I’m listening to Smooth less and less.
