New timeslot
Sensible move. Makes 100% sense at 7pm.
Just lost this household. DOND was our alternative to the news. Guess the TV will be off now!
Wonder how well DOND will fare now.
What happens if it tanks.
I think if 10 were smart, they should air DOND episodes from the night before (the previous night’s 7pm episode) at 6pm on BOLD/PEACH or something, so then they retain that audience while attracting a new one on 10 at 7pm.
Better flow on from show to show, i hope. From the 5pm News First, to the new National News at 6, to game show at 7pm, to Masterchef at 7.30pm
I think Deal worked at 6pm as a news alternative, but it’s a bit too light to go at 7pm, there’s competing switch your brain off content on 7 and 9 in that timeslot.
The issues the format has with pacing when there’s an early deal, or they knock out the high value cases too quickly are okay when you’re waiting around for the news anyway (like when it was on 7 at 5:30), but as a proper lead in to primetime I can see that being an issue.
That issue with how the show ends is ultimately the main thing that ended Temptation, the last real attempt at a commercial TV gameshow at 7pm - you couldn’t end the show immediately on the excitement of fast money, but instead had the show grind to a halt to give them prizes and see if they’d carry on to the next episode, an open invitation to switch over to other networks.
Very sensible to move it to 7pm - wouldn’t make sense to sandwich it between two new shows. It only works as a “news alternative” if it doesn’t lead into more news.
I give this new show six months TBH after which I suspect the 5pm bulletin will be extended to 6.30pm again and a new gameshow will partner Deal creating an hour long block from 6.30-7.30pm.
I guess that’s where the siren/steal the deal comes in.
Think 7pm is the death knock for DOND. No way it can be competitive with ACA or H&A.
Tend to agree personally.
I agree - at least at 6pm, the show is an alternative to the news programs on the other two channels, unlike at 7pm where there is already an established alternative (H&A) on one of the big two.
I hope not. I like to watch Nine News at 6:00pm, so I watch Deal Or No Deal on 10Play at 7:30pm. With Deal Or No Deal moving to 7:00pm at the end of the month, I’ll be able to watch it when it comes on.
When the show was revived in January last year, I didn’t think it would last until the end of the year competing against Seven and Nine News. I certainly hope it lasts for another few years in the 7:00pm timeslot.
It wont be competitive, but it’ll be up against lower rating shows, however will fall behind ABC news and come 4th in its slot and unlikely to match the demos of the Project (which looks like its half of what it was a couple years ago, hard to compare metro 7pm slot against 6:30pm hour national slot properly)
But A Current Affair and Home & Away rate lower than the 6pm news so it could do better.
likely to be filler until a big franchise / reality show comes in at 7pm and they fall back to DOND in between.
