Promo shown during the 5pm news was the first noticed with the new date.
Nine also recycled The Weakest Link and that failed miserably with its comedic approach. At least it’s doing well in the US.
They’d probably all do well, even DOND if shown at a proper time. Maybe around 3pm? And with a proper host! Tipping Point will probably do well because it’s 9 but they look like they’ve spoiled that too. As for their host, enough said.
Gladiators is another exception and also a dog.
Ten are trying to disrupt the 6pm timeslot here but where is the marketing innovation? Where’s the old school marketing like dropping suitcases in each state with clues posted during the episodes? Or home viewer contest giving them the chance to win their own case???
They could have had all their personalities opening suitcases in ads??? Or even a prime time celeb edition to launch it and remind people what it’s all about?!?
If they think that grants dancing is going to get this show over the line then I think they may be very dissappointed.
Probably considered a terrorism risk in this day and age.
As you Remember, 10 had a Sporadic History with Game Shows, Just 2 Shows about Love (The Marriage Game & Perfect Match) lasting more than 5 Years and never had a Decade or Longer the way Nine did with Sale of the Century & later Who Wants to be a Millionare and it’s Daily Spin-off Hot Seat or Seven with Wheel of Fortune and the Original Deal or No Deal. Neither Had Grant Denyer had as the Original Million Dollar Minute Host before jumping to 10 to Host the Family Feud back in 2014.
It’s weird that they didn’t have the show filmed in Sydney where Grant is based. Grant posted a video on his Instagram on Monday where his youngest daughter Sunday said she misses him.
It’s not weird at all. They will produce the show where they can get studios available. Sometimes it is not in the same city as the talent. Possibly the studio is secured before they even know who the talent is? Maybe?
John Burgess hosted Wheel Of Fortune for over a decade from Channel Seven in Adelaide, where he commuted from the Gold Coast every week.
This sort of thing is not unusual. Did Andrew O’Keefe live in Melbourne when he taped Deal Or No Deal in Melbourne?
Also the availability of local production talent.
No he still lived and Sydney and would fly back and forth between there and Melbourne. Between 2005 and 2017 he was co host of Weekend Sunrise. In August 2020 production of The Chase was moved to Sydney due to Stage 4 Covid-19 restrictions in Melbourne.
When Larry Emdur became the new host in February 2021 production remained in Sydney so he could still co host The Morning Show.
If I remember correctly, wasn’t this show produced out of Sydney during the Rob Elliott (and subsequently Steve Oemcke and Larry Emdur) era?
So what’s this going to rate and settle at? 150k?
What did the O Keefe DOD pull? I recall it was 400-500k nightly?
I feel like the format is dead and it’s Tipping Point that will be luring any new viewers, or converting viewers, not this. Hard task here growing a slot which had zero loyalty prior. The demographic over 60s who like Denyer will probably watch. The other two skew a bit younger. I’d be very cautious about how this is going to go if I was a boss at 10.
Jack it happens all the time with talent.
Grant would have flown into Melbourne, tapped about 12 episodes a week and most likely flew home on the weekends. Production for this season of episodes would have wrapped up in month.
If the show’s successful, 10 will order another season. The show would go back into production say April / May for another 50 episodes etc.
He only works what part time if even that? I know people who commute to/from these two cities and barely see the family for the whole year. Don’t really have much sympathy for him.
Denyer works a month then unemployed again.
DoND will premiere just 5 days before the 20th anniversary of the OG weeknight version on 7
Yes they suddenly moved production from Sydney to Adelaide, along with axing John Burgess from the show, and introducing new theme music, faster format and modified rules. Within weeks of the new version airing, they reinstated as many of the old rules as they could.
Yep I think 150k - 200k.
I think it will hit higher - I think it will start around 300-350k - and depending on the show’s quality, it could go up from word of mouth (of course , if it is a Gladiators (poor production, etc) it will drop of quick).
I think enough time has passed that the format will have a little bit of nostalgia, and I think Grant (as much as I don’t care for him) has appeal to viewers - not only has time gone by from when he was everywhere (peak Family Feud), he was a water cooler chat at work when he got heat stroke on Celeb Amazing Race last year when Amazing Race typically does not feature in any water cooler chat). I also think there is value in there being a News alternative.
