Dancing with the Stars

I enjoyed it. Is there a band this year? Seemed they were using the original recordings of the songs rather than a live band.

No, they aren’t. Rikki Lee Coulter said on Nova yesterday that they used her song for the first performance and she said whoever sang it, got the lyrics wrong.

Absolutely, that’s impressive you couldn’t tell though, I also noted in a comment yesterday the music was a highlight. But whether the songs were recorded in a separate studio before or played live during filming not too sure.

Whoops, that’s not good. I didn’t even notice, but not exactly a regular listener of her tunes.

So if someone fell mid dance or something would they likely just re shoot it?

Dancers Jive, dancers thrive, dancer barely survives

Danger on the dancefloor as second group of stars set the stage alight

Tonight on Dancing With The Stars the second batch of celebs to took to the floor, with actress Virginia Gay topping the leaderboard with 32 points. Her theatrical Paso Doble blew the judges away and earnt her the highest score of the competition so far.

Unfortunately, the spectacular lift Charlie Albone spent weeks preparing went horribly wrong in his Jive, as he almost dropped his partner Ruby. Unphased by the judge’s harsh feedback, Charlie bounced back to receive a total of eight points.

Christie Whelan Browne scored a 30 for her first performance, with Sharna exclaiming it was “everything a Viennese Waltz should be.”

Phil Burton proved he has both boyband and ballroom moves, receiving a total of 29 for his Viennese Waltz.

Rising to the dancing challenge was Olympic hurdler Sally Pearson, whose track training came in handy for her leaping Quickstep, earning her 27 points from the judges.

Showing no mercy, actor Pia Miranda debuted a cheeky Cha Cha, scoring a total of 23. Judge Sharna Burgess exclaimed Pia and her partner have both “chemistry and camaraderie on the dancefloor.”

KIIS radio host and podcaster Laura Byrne couldn’t contain her enthusiasm in her Jive, ultimately forgetting some of her steps. Judge Todd McKenney described Laura’s dance as “frantic,” while Craig Revel Horwood said she was like a “praying mantis on acid”.

The final leaderboard for the night:

  • Virginia Gay and Ian Waite – 32
  • Christie Whelan Browne and Craig Monley – 30
  • Phil Burton and Ash-Leigh Hunter – 29
  • Sally Pearson and Mitch Kirkby – 27
  • Pia Miranda and Declan Taylor – 23
  • Laura Byrne and Danil Saveliev – 19
  • Charlie Albone and Ruby Gherbaz – 8

Next Sunday on Dancing With The Stars, the first group of celebrities return to the dancefloor and so does the dreaded elimination.

I noticed that Sally Pearson’s foot appeared to slip on the floor early in her routine.

Seven should sign Sharna and/or Craig to lock away for Seven future DWTS and other shows, including specials and appearances on Sunrise, TMS, BH&G, Logies, etc. They’re so good IMO! Thought the same on 10’s DWTS, a shame 10 couldn’t make it work, though they did keep Tristan.

Loved this ident from 2019 too:

I’ve just watched the show on Seven Plus ,Craig RH is more nasty than Todd, considering all these judges haven’t worked together before there was great chemistry between them.
Daryl looks old ,time for him to retire soon.

As much as I don’t rate her if they wanted to have a retro vibe with the hosting but not have it so dated surely Sonia could have been given the main role - given what they pay her surely she’s above the pay grade of a behind the scenes co-host.

Sunday 2 July

This Sunday, the stars return to the dancefloor with new and improved performances ahead of the dreaded elimination, but one will make the shocking decision to walk away. The question is: who?

All week, they were teasing that “this has never been done before”. Now we know that someone walks away.

We also see what all the contestants are wearing this week’s episode too - in the latest ad. Kind of ruins the surprise when tuning in…

Shock Dancing twist!

Emily Weir pulls four 10s while Matt Preston pulls out of Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars was rocked by a shock walkout, a cancelled dance-off and a perfect score tonight on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Food critic Matt Preston made the surprise decision to leave the competition after his ankle injury prevented him from performing in the dance-off, after landing in the bottom two alongside AFL legend Gavin Wanganeen.

Home and Away’s Emily Weir hit a new high with her emotional contemporary dance, receiving a standing ovation and a perfect score from the judges. The deeply personal dance, inspired by Emily overcoming her demons, was described by judge Craig Revel Horwood as “Fab-u-lous” while Todd McKenney simply told Emily “I’m going to let my paddle do the talking.”

Paulini lived out her princess dream with a Beauty and the Beast inspired performance, receiving 30 points from the judges. Mark Wilson revealed he was impressed by the “delicate movement and elegance” of the dance.

Issa Shultz thrived playing Danny Zuko for his Jive to Grease Lightning, with the audience loving his performance so much that even the judges couldn’t resist joining in.

Comedian Mary Coustas found her edge with her Samba, while James Magnussen impressed the judges with a slow-motion lift in his Cha Cha.

Gavin Wanganeen landed at the bottom of the leaderboard with his punk-inspired Tango scoring 20 points with the judges noting it was an improvement on his first dance.

Matt Preston’s ill-fated Paso Doble scored only six points out of a possible 40, with Craig declaring he had seen ‘tombstones with more movement.”

The final leaderboard for the night:

  • Emily Weir and Lyu Masuda – 40
  • Paulini and Igor Ifliand – 30
  • James Magnussen and Natalie Lowe – 26
  • Mary Coustas and Aric Yegudkin – 26
  • Issa Shultz and Lily Cornish – 25
  • Gavin Wanganeen and Megan Wragg – 20
  • Matt Preston and Jess Raffa – 6

Next Sunday on Dancing With The Stars, the second group of celebrities make their way back to the dancefloor. Who will be the next star eliminated?

It was only the matter of when, and not if.

I wonder if he will mention the withdrawal from DWTS during his ABC Radio Melbourne morning show this Saturday?

Is it a first? I’m sure someone else has quit due to injury in the past.

Why wouldn’t he? It’s not a secret now.

Just caught up on last week’s ep via 7Plus, this season continues to be very good, a lot better than I expected it was going to be, even with originals in Daryl/Sonia/Todd/Mark. Craig and Sharna (even though other series and familiar here from 10’s) that new ingredient spark I reckon, as well as an outstanding muscial arrangement and some colour from various celebs. Emily Weir’s latest routine was incredible, she should go all the way, there’s always at least one unbelievable standout of natural ability like they should’ve been dancing their whole life; she received a standing ovation and perfect all-10s score.

Charlie Albone leaves Dancing With The Stars

Better Homes and Gardens landscaper hangs up his dancing shoes

Better Homes and Gardens landscaper Charlie Albone was pipped at the post by Olympic hurdler Sally Pearson in tonight’s dance-off to secure the last spot in the Dancing With The Stars Semi Final.

Barbie and Ken~ Christie Whelan Browne and Craig Monley stepped out of the toybox and came to life in their Cha Cha, scoring a total of 34 points. Sharna Burgess commented: “it was the most amazing way to start the show.”

Pia Miranda’s Argentine Tango was sultry, but the judges scored her 24 points, believing it needed a stronger frame and more sexual chemistry.

Speedy Sally Pearson’s footwork came unstuck as she raced through her Jive. Despite the dance being frenetic, Craig Revel-Horwood critiqued that her “weight needs to be over her toes.”

Charlie Albone achieved redemption with his Rumba, delivering two lifts without a single drop. Scoring 17 points, Mark Wilson said “there’s an awkwardness about you that’s a bit Hugh Grant-like.”

Virginia Gay was back on top of the leaderboard with 36 points for her role-reversed Quickstep, while Laura Byrne delivered a beautiful Foxtrot.

Todd McKenney said Phil Burton gave “both a great performance and showed great technical ability” with his Paso Doble, receiving 35 points.

Before the night was through, the audience votes changed everything, placing Charlie and Ruby, and Sally and Mitch in the dance off. Sally and Mitch performed a beautiful and technical waltz, while Charlie went all out, giving everything he had to his salsa.

The final leaderboard for the night:

  • Virginia Gay and Ian Waite – 36
  • Phil Burton and Ash-Leigh Hunter – 35
  • Christie Whelan Browne and Craig Monley – 34
  • Laura Byrne and Danil Saveliev – 28
  • Sally Pearson and Mitch Kirkby – 27

Next Sunday on Dancing With The Stars, it’s the first Semi Final. Six couples will dance, but only three will survive. Who will make it through to the Grand Finale?

I’m really enjoying this series. Some of the dancers are excellent and the costumes are fantastic. I couldn’t even work out who Christie Whelan Browne was during her Barbie routine! The lighting has been outstanding this year as well, such as in Laura Byrne’s routine last night.

The spotlight fades on Gavin, James and Issa

Triple elimination leaves three places in the Grand Finale

It was go hard or go home in tonight’s Dancing With The Stars, as Emily Weir, Mary Coustas and Paulini secured the first spots in the Grand Finale; while Gavin Wanganeen, James Magnussen and Issa Schultz were seen dancing off into the sunset.

Kicking off the show, Paulini scored well with a prom-inspired Jive, while James Magnussen’s inspirational Viennese Waltz was filled with jaw-dropping lifts.

Issa Schultz brought the house down with his Paso Doble, although Todd McKenney found his stern attempt at the dance humorous and cute.

After lapping up the high scores with her latin routines, Home and Away star Emily Weir had a ballroom blitz scoring 35 points with her energetic Quickstep.

Mary Coustas’ alterego Effie stole the limelight with her passionate Paso Doble, while Gavin Wanganeen overcame a back injury to perform an inspiring Rumba.

With the judges and audience votes combined, Gavin was eliminated; while Paulini, Issa and James were left to fight it out for the remaining place in the Grand Finale.

After all three performed their second chance dance, the judges made the unanimous choice to send Paulini and Igor through to the Grand Finale.

The final leaderboard for the night:

  • Emily Weir and Lyu Masuda – 35
  • Mary Coustas and Aric Yegudkin – 34
  • James Magnussen and Natalie Lowe – 26
