Dancing with the Stars

Thanks I figured certainly looks pre recorded.

Any reason why they didn’t go live?

I don’t think they’ve been live for the last 2 seasons either.

Seven don’t like doing live tv for their reality shows in recent years for some reason.

And in the opener, they said that the show will go for 7 weeks. Also, the first seven contestants perform tonight, with the remaining seven performing next week. Which means that eliminations will be on in week three (perhaps starting with double eliminations?).

Sonia’s spray tan is a bit too much…

Live was good, but they really did struggle to keep to time. I remember some episodes went for 3 hours, you can see how really tight they can run the pre recorded version.

Gives 7 some options on a Sunday night also, can now fit in a spotlight at 830. They would struggle to run a live show 7-830 on time, and upset the News department with a delayed spotlight, generally an exclusive.

What’s going on with her eyes look weird.

Covid?

Surely that’s not an excuse for not doing it nowadays.

This season looks better than the previous season cast and dance wise but the vibe is kind of flat. You just have to see Strictly UK and DWTS America, compare them to our version and you can immediately tell how engaged and involved the audience gets over there.

Probably so they can over-edit the hell out of their shows, as they’ve always done including fixing any bloopers/gaffes, trying to make it more exciting and truncating it.

These modern day hosts need the pre-record to be honest.

The amount of mistakes Rikki Lee and Scott made on Idol this year was very high. Lots and lots of redos.

Just watched a bit of this. Sounds like they’re adding canned applause and canned laughter for Daryl’s “jokes”. :joy: And canned “boos”. :joy:

I noticed that too with the audience with the extra “laughs” to the corny jokes and extra “boos” to Craig’s low scoring. Seems odd for a show like this.

Of course… but that was the original reason. Since then alll television production has been prerecorded.

Plus it’s easier to program.

One reason for pre-recording is to edit some of Daryl’s comments if he goes rogue again.

That’s what makes good TV though when it’s live, hosts and judges go off script, get some tense moments.

Pre recorded just comes across as too producer orchestrated and fake.

Stars set fire to the dancefloor

Paulini Sambas to the top of the leaderboard

A sea of sequins, spins and swirls made a spectacular return to screen in tonight’s premiere of Dancing With The Stars on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Tonight, after meeting all 14 celebrities, the stars were divided into two groups set to take the stage over alternate weeks.

Kicking off the show was Home and Away favourite Emily Weir, who swapped her Summer Bay surfboard for a sexy Samba , scoring a total of 26 from the judges.

World Champion swimmer James Magnussen proved he is just as good on the dancefloor as he is in the pool, receiving 27 points for his red-hot Tango, with judge Craig Revel Horwood declaring James has “great potential”.

The Chase Australia ’s Supernerd Issa Shultz took to the floor with his quirky Foxtrot, scoring 20 points. Judge Sharna Burgess predicted that Dancing With The Stars would be a “transformative experience” for Issa.

Despite putting his best foot forward, AFL legend Gavin Wanganeen found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard, scoring just eight points for his Cha Cha which Craig described as a “complete disaster.”

Mary Coustas captivated the audience with her Grecian-inspired Tango, however the judges believe Mary is capable of more, giving her 18 points and calling her choreography “too safe”.

Performer Paulini had the competition quaking in their heels, with her energetic Samba topping the leaderboard with 28 points.

Matt Preston had a rough start to the competition, getting injured on day one of training. With his rehearsals impacted due to his recovery he failed to impress scoring just 10 points for his Foxtrot.

The final leaderboard for the night:

  • Paulini and Igor Ifliand – 28
  • Emily Weir and Lyu Masuda – 26
  • James Magnussen and Natalie Lowe – 27
  • Issa Shultz and Lily Cornish – 20
  • Mary Coustas and Aric Yegudkin – 18
  • Matt Preston and Jess Raffa – 10
  • Gavin Wanganeen and Megan Wragg – 8

Next Sunday on Dancing With The Stars, the second group of stars comprising of Charlie Albone, Christie Whelan Browne, Laura Byrne, Phil Burton, Pia Miranda, Sally Pearson and Virginia Gay take to the dancefloor.

Caught up via 7Plus and enjoyed last night’s launch, I didn’t think this umpteenth season could offer much, especially after being back on Seven for a couple of years now and no staples in Helen and Paul, however it was well produced with solid production values, impressed by the singing/musicians as always and Sharna and Craig for what it’s worth are a welcome return and freshening up for Seven’s iteration.

I thought Craig and Sharna were the standouts. But what surprised me was how well they worked with Todd and Mark chemistry-wise.

Don’t excuse poor production though - it runs live in virtually every other country is airs in and they manage to keep to time. This is just Seven being Seven - perhaps if they hadn’t bothered with the inevitable flop that was Blow Up and allocated the budget to doing DWTS properly - live over about three months - then their second quarter wouldn’t have been such a disaster.

Really don’t think it makes much difference in ratings whether the show is live or prerecoded. We’ve seen that it makes little difference when they do finals live with some shows.

I might watch this tonight. I have nothing else to do. I prefer the UK version abs Len Goodman was such a good judge did he do any seasons of the Australian version? He was on US DWTS (alleged stars lol) for a while.
