Grand Final will be Monday 12 August, at almost 2.5 hours. That’s a 7-episode run.
Seven episode run? That’s a very short run.
We have had 4 weeks go by, with only 2 contestants being eliminated so far. This Sunday’s show will be seeing a double elimination. Which means that there will be 7 contestants in the remaining 2 episodes, including the Grand Final.
Why hype up so much, to then rush through the show towards the end?
The splitting of the cast for 4 weeks, and the unnecessary padding was a wasted opportunity.
DWTS’ run time just way, way too long. It was perplexing not to see it conclude or rest with the Olympics anyway. I’m convinced they’ve done both these things in some back-fired attempt to take away some share from Nine’s Olympics or rather keep themselves afloat, at least on Sundays vs ABC, 10 and SBS. It’ll actually end up turning some live viewers away and may lose them completely.
2.5 hours is way to long. Still too much waffle between each dance.
Also, do we need Chris Brown asking pretty much the same questions Sonia were asking to the stars?
Step back in time
A double elimination rocks Dancing With The Stars
Tonight on Dancing With The Stars, all 10 couples came together to dance through the decades in a special ‘step back in time’ episode. With a double elimination on the cards, it was Julie Goodwin and Nova Peris who failed to impress, with both stars sent home.
After a sensational group performance to Kylie Minogue’s Step Back in Time, the couples faced off for a place in the Semi Final.
Ant Middleton donned a mullet and performed a Jive to Wham’s 80s hit Wake Me Up Before You Go Go. Receiving a score of 27, Helen Richey was impressed by Ant’s musicality and improvement each week.
Foxtrotting to Frank Sinatra’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Home and Away star James Stewart enthralled Craig Revel Horwood, who likened his performance to La La Land. James received a total of 34.
Channelling her inner Lady Gaga, Nikki Osborne received a standing ovation for her Rumba to Shallow, earning a score of 35.
In her disco era, Nova Peris served up Cha Cha, although Helen critiqued that she was staying within her capabilities. Nova scored 19 points.
Ben Cousins embodied Bon Jovi, receiving 21 points for his Viennese Waltz to Bed of Roses. Mark Wilson commended his resilience and enormous change from his first dance.
Julie Goodwin returned to the floor with an impressive Foxtrot, scoring 27 points. The judges called her “a sexy vixen,” “a sassy minx,” and even a “dominatrix” after her steamy performance.
Better Homes and Gardens ’ Adam Dovile transformed into a matador in his Paso Doble to The Foo Fighter’s Best of You. Earning 32 points, Adam was over the moon when Sharna Burgess exclaimed she “freaking loved it!”
Lisa McCune had plenty of rhythm in her 40s Quickstep, scoring 39 points.
Jumping forward to the 90s, Shane Crawford was Livin’ La Vida Loca in his Samba. Helen declared Shane a threat in the competition, before he received a score of 29.
Samantha Jade delivered a very respectable Cha Cha, earning 39 points and landing equal first with Lisa.
With no dance-off, it was Nova Peris and Julie Goodwin who ended up on the bottom of the leaderboard and were sent home.
The final leaderboard on the night:
Samantha Jade and Gustavo Viglio: 39
Nikki Osborne and Aric Yegudkin: 35
James Stewart and Jorja Freeman: 34
Adam Dovile and Jess Raffa: 32
Shane Crawford and Ash-Leigh Hunter: 29
Ant Middleton and Alex Vladimirov: 27
Julie Goodwin and Andrey Gorbunov: 27
Ben Cousins and Siobhan Power: 21
Nova Peris and Craig Monley: 19
Next Sunday on Dancing With The Stars, the dance floor really fires up with finals fever. With only five places in the Grand Finale, which three couples will be sent home?
Dancing With The Stars Continues 7.00pm Sunday on Channel 7 and 7plus
Has it backfired though? Their ratings last Sunday were pretty strong considering.
Considering last olympics Nine & Ten ran premium content against 7, it’s not all that perplexing. I’m surprised we haven’t seen more, especially given they are largely competing against heats in France.
I think 7 is running DWTS so they can have Sonia & Chris on TV in the lead up to the Logies, particularly Sonia.
An insider told Yahoo Lifestyle last month that Channel Seven has received “several complaints” about Sonia’s X-rated jokes - saying they were displeased with her “smutty innuendos” and “disgusting” comments - which forced editors to re-edit the pre-recorded series to be more family-friendly viewing.
The other source claimed that Dr Chris and Sonia would return next year to host DWTS.
Ben Cousins actually got the second lowest score of the night (21) but he stayed. Why?
Studio audience liked him more than the judges?
Yeah she’s been doing this since returning to DWTS, it’s not necessary and just doesn’t suit her, definitely some questionable producing/editing there
Sonia was quick witted and didnt rely on smutty jokes when she first appeared some 17 (?) years ago. Its only been the last few season that her so called jokes relied on innuendo.
You have a short memory. She was always risque.
This season Sonia was worse than previous years. Perhaps this is because she’s now the host but some of her jokes are pretty close to the line.
I’m enjoying this season. Ant Middleton is doing a great job for someone with no dancing experience, and Nikki Osborne is fantastic. Lisa McCune has danced in theatre which would presumably give her a slight advantage. It feels like Samantha Jade is perhaps doing too well for someone who claims to have never danced before.
Looking forward to catching up after the Olympics, I’ve seen the first 3 eps
I had a chat with Julie Goodwin after her elimination - she was every bit as nice as she appears to be on television:
I reckon this might do well for Seven tonight, not as much tomorrow. If last night’s Olympics audiences are anything to go by and DWTS’ consistently solid performance during Paris 2024. Could even see it outrating or winning its timeslot. Shares could also be closer. That’d be a big upset and disappointing for Nine, even if not a complete shock all things considered. It’ll all depend on how many tune-in to the final night of the Games and what’s happening, there are a few chances for gold or medals. Nine should do well leading-in to 6pm news and later in the evening.
Not much happening in the games tonight apart from some bronze and gold medal events (that don’t involve Australia) - might be a good chance for Seven to get a decent share.
In tonight’s semi-final, judges and studio audience would both have a say. The top four couples would go straight into Monday’s grand final. The bottom four couples would go into a dance off with three couples eliminated.
Meet the Grand Finalists
Triple elimination reveals final five on Dancing With The Stars
Tonight, the Dancing With The Stars Semi Final saw a triple elimination which sent fan-favourites Ben Cousins, Adam Dovile and Shane Crawford home, and left Lisa McCune, Ant Middleton, James Stewart, Nikki Osborne and Samantha Jade to fight it out in tomorrow night’s Dancing With The Stars Grand Finale.
The five Grand Finalists stunned in their Semi Final routines with Samantha Jade and Lisa McCune both scoring a near perfect 39, while James secured his Grand Final spot after a dance off with Adam Dovile and Shane Crawford.
Samantha Jade floated through the Foxtrot. Sharna Burgess was blown away, commenting it was “phenomenal, you two are setting the bar.”
Lisa McCune glowed in her Viennese Waltz, equalling Samantha’s score of 39. Helen said Lisa made the dance look easy!
Nikki Osborne performed a jubilant Quickstep, with all four judges commenting on her significant improvement throughout the season, before awarding her 34 points for her performance.
Ant Middleton tapped into his intimate side scoring 37 points for his vulnerable contemporary routine.
James Stewart scored an impressive 35 points as he raised the dead with his Paso Doble.
Shane Crawford blitzed his Victorian era Quickstep, receiving a total score of 30.
Adam Dovile stunned with a sensual Rumba, where his dance partner Jess Raffa exclaimed: “I’ve never been able to dance like that before on the show. I just let go. I could shut my eyes and he’s such a good leader.” Adam received a total of 28 from the judges.
Ben gave it his all with an intense Argentine Tango, but a score of 17 saw him eliminated from the competition before Adam, Shane and James battled it out to compete in the dance off.
In the end, it was James Stewart who secured the coveted final place after impressing with his Charleston.
