Why would 7 not promote this?

I think only one dance left, and 20 mins to go, this is looking like a Grand Finale that might actually finish on time.

Why did they make it 2.5 hours. Surely they could have split this up to 2 episodes. Sunday, Monday & Tuesday. They are doing 1% club on both Tuesday & Wednesday.

I actually prefer this approach. I hate it when they string things out over two or more nights unnecessarily. Just get it over and done with.

Actor Lisa McCune wins Dancing With The Stars

Tonight’s Dancing With The Stars Grand Finale was an act of perfection, as star of stage and screen Lisa McCune beat out singing sensation Samantha Jade to take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.

The five grand finalists – Samantha Jade, James Stewart, Nikki Osborne, Ant Middleton and Lisa McCune – performed their own expertly crafted Freestyle dance in the ultimate ballroom showdown.

Dancing a burlesque-inspired routine to her own recording of Show Me How to Burlesque, Samantha kickstarted the show and received 38 points.

Home and Away hunk James Stewart scored 30 points for his masculine Freestyle dance, while Nikki Osbourne’s Argentine Tango inspired Freestyle received 31 points.

Ant Middleton channelled his inner gladiator with his performance, which Mark Wilson “loved from the start,” earning him 34 points.

Lisa topped the leaderboard with a perfect score for her old-school Hollywood-inspired performance, which Helen Richey called the stand out performance of the night.

After combing the judges scores with the audience vote, Nikki and James said goodbye.

Samantha, Ant and Lisa then re-performed their favourite dances from earlier in the series, where they received 38, 36 and 39 points respectively, before the studio audience cast their final vote.

Sonia Kruger and Chris Brown announced Ant Middleton had received the lowest votes – coming third in the competition – which left Samantha and Lisa to battle it out for the Mirror Ball Trophy.

Lisa was crowned Dancing With The Stars champion and was awarded $20,000 for her chosen charities, the RCD Foundation and the Harrison Reidel Foundation.

A humbled Lisa said: “I’m so thrilled” before praising her dancing partner Ian Waite.

With a shiny new Mirror Ball Trophy to added to her accolades, Lisa joked: “It will keep my Logies company.”

The final leaderboard for the night:

Lisa McCune and Ian Waite: 40 + 39

Samantha Jade and Gustavo Viglio: 38 + 38

Ant Middleton and Alex Vladimirov: 34 + 36

Nikki Osborne and Aric Yegudkin: 31

James Stewart and Jorja Freeman: 30

TBH I’m not surprised given she has experience performing in musicals, which often involve dancing.

It could have gone for one more week. Having a top 8 on Sunday, and a top 5 the following night for the Grand Final dragged out the show. It should be a top 3 Grand Final,.

Glad Lisa McCune won.

Being a major star in Seven’s ^Blue Heelers" probably helped as well.

It was always set up for her to win.

I agree with others that it would be better as 2 episodes. The end of the season feels rushed when there are so many people in a final. 2.5 hours is way too long (I couldn’t bear sitting through it all but my partner did) and there was an elimination in the middle of the episode anyway which could have been a point to split the episode out.

Why? What’s your conspiracy theory now?

Because it’s Lisa McCune, multiple gold logie winner and darling of channel 7

20-something years ago.

Wouldn’t you think if they wanted to rig it they would have made James Stewart or Ant Middleton the winner, rather than someone who left Blue Heelers in the year 2000?

I still think they’d go for Lisa, because everyone likes her and it would look like a “feel good” outcome being a comeback of sorts. And she’s still probably better known than James or Ant.
