Probably better known as a gold medallist at the Olympic Games and a former Senator of Australia.

Considering what they’ve said about Idol and that they now seem to finally realise Big Brother needs to be live too you’d think they’d work to have DWTS live as well. Even in this shortened format it could be done in 4-5 weeks considering with the first two weeks airing over two nights. A slightly longer filming commitment but in the grand scheme of things an extra couple of weeks to do it live should be seen as worth it.
Does a live production and extended filming window impact the casting?
I have seen a lot of commentary about how the last few DWTS casts have been pretty good, and I wonder if a shorter pre-recorded production is big factor in getting the bigger names.
I heard through a trusted source that a LIVE show of this nature can cost between $1.5-2m per episode. That same show if pre-recorded costs around $750k. I think the savings are in the smaller studio hire length + no live transmission equipment etc.
As much as I would love all these shows to be LIVE again, I think when you look at it financially it doesn’t make sense anymore.
Yep, if it was rating similar to what MAFS is doing then live show could be justified even with the cost but it’s not so live is just too costly with no big rewards in return
Dancing with the Stars doesn’t need to be live, in the same way that Big Brother or Aus Idol needs to be live. The only reason to go live is if the format requires the audience’s interactivity.
Big Brother needs to go live because the original Aussie format relies on weekly viewer votes to determine who stays and who goes - without that audience investment (picking favourites, watching them on live feeds, voting for them, hoping they go the distance), the audience is less inclined to stick around. Even as a defender of the new format (as I enjoy Survivor-style strategy games), I have to acknowledge how much bigger it was previously and how big it could be going live, mixing the best of the Ch7 format (challenges and strategy) with audience votes from the old school.
Aus Idol, similar, is sold on finding Australia’s next pop star and getting audience investment, allowing them to pick favourites, vote, etc.
Dancing with the Stars is more about how wacky and novel it is seeing your favourite celebrity picking up a new skill, with judges’ scores essentially deciding who is voted out. Yes, the audience vote can build a little more investment from the audience in the show. Still, it’s not made or break to the format (judges’ vote already largely determines the results) - I doubt a few people are actively turned off by the show not having an audience vote.
Interesting. I think one difference here though is it’s kind of done “near live” with a 4-5 day turnaround rather than a 7 day turnaround, so they still have the studio booked for multiple weeks rather than filming all shows in a week. Yes, a couple of extra weeks would be required and yes, the costs would increase - but I do think it’s short sighted by 7 in this case to look at only costs rather than the value of going live.
Similarly with casting I don’t think an extra couple of weeks would impact things hugely as opposed to going back to doing it over three months.
I think it’s unlikely the LIVE factor would add significantly to DTWS ratings in this market. And therefore, may make the show financially unviable and therefore, cancelled. At least this way production staff are still employed in a lo al production.
Did they change filming times? Im sure it had 6pm on the website now it says 8pm-12am.
That’s so late to be filming and extra pay for everyone, they might as well filmed it LIVE
I’ve just checked the That’s the Ticket website and it still says the filming time as 6pm to 10pm.

on this link it says different. mistake?
Could be a mistake. This is what I see on the homepage for the next two shows.
Nikki Osborne was on the panel of Good Friday Appeal tonight. She told Larry Emdur that she is still suffering a strained right arm, as the result of rehearsals and dances. She said that she felt soreness and some strain when she tried to straighten her right arm.
“In Farmer Wants A Wife” doesn’t sound right. Shouldn’t it be ‘during’?
The idea of the hosts catching the celebs in the promo feels very familiar to a certain Channel 10 celebrity show
Bloody good promo that was.
That was a nostalgic trip, when Ten had found their mojo again! Was a fresh new reality series for Australia. Later that year MasterChef’s winner would rate 2.2m metro, beating MKR’s.
That also must’ve been one of the last promos that V/O did for Ten after about a decade there, went to and still at Nine

Another good promo from a similar time, 2016:
