A bizarre decision to call off Friday night’s WBBL game 2.5 overs into the chase, with the Sydney Thunder needing just three runs for victory has been condemned as “farcical” and “a joke”.

The Thunder missed out on a win against the Adelaide Strikers in a rain-shortened match at the Adelaide Oval after umpires abandoned play, robbing the batting side of what would have been crucial competition points.

With the match restricted to five overs because of the weather, and Sydney needing 46 runs to win, Phoebe Litchfield’s 38 from 15 balls powered the Thunder to 0-43 from 2.5 overs.

The wet weather seems to have followed the WBBL around this year. The first game in Adelaide yesterday was a total washout.

Fortunately it looks like both games today (in Melbourne and Hobart) will be played in full.

Thunder got dudded. Either you cancel it earlier or you let them finish.

The fact that one game was cancelled earlier in the day should’ve been a sign.

The match should have been called off during the 2nd over when it was pouring down, the time they actually cancelled it was probably the lightest the rain was in the 2nd innings. And I think within 5 mins there was no rain.

The umpires should have given the thunder 1 ball and say you have 1 ball to win the game as we are going off if the game isn’t over. They only needed 3 runs so I think that’s what should of happened

Off-topic, but this is very reminiscent of this earlier this year.

Sometimes I feel like match organizers should have a sense of ETA awareness.

A bit different here, because games aren’t all in the same location. They probably would have been pre booked on the next flight to the next game the next day etc. Too much disruption.

That’s what the ABC commentators were saying (I was at the Flames game winning cameras and being an annoying dick ) - the rain had eased off. Surely they could have finished it off.

ESPNCricinfo reports tonight Mark Wood will miss the second Ashes test in Brisbane next week, with a knee issue.

West Indies took a wicket in the opening over for the first time in a test match this season. NZ hasn’t scored boundaries yet.

And that match is currently rain-delayed. Should be good for 12.45pm local time restart.

I got it on in the background it is an interesting first day, I thought NZ was going to consolidate but a few wickets have fallen. I do enjoy West Indies getting better. However the batting needs to improve.

Day 1 ends with NZ’s 231/9.

So are we saying Cummins has a chance?

England has picked all-rounder Will Jacks to replace Mark Wood for the Gabba test. Spinner replaces fast bowler.

Don’t you mean ‘onos’

I like this Māori word for six- it’s a good description of what the bowler would be saying (along with some other choice words) when being hit for a Dorothy.

Why would this be notable

Just my personal observation from reading the scorecard. I’m glad to remove if it’s of no use.
