I am enjoying the Test Match over in India. India 2-95 chasing down SA first innings score of 489. Should go past 4 days  .

Watching it now… Refreshing to see a Test where it’s Day 3 AND its still the 1st innings!

Seeing the BCCI/Star Sports (quite nice) graphics (somehow) reminds me of a something I’ve been wondering for ages..

Why are Australian broadcasters the only ones in world cricket who list/state wickets before runs? eg 1 for 100 instead of 100 for 1 as every other country does. Has anyone heard of a reason or theory for that?

I might be in the minority but the Aussie version makes more sense honestly. Irritates me when international broadcasters do vice-versa. But hey, land down under I guess.

Because Aussies have always done that and will not change.

I think the international version makes more sense, in that you’re saying the batting team has made 100 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. The runs are the focus and the wickets the expense of achieving that.

Of course, they still talk about bowling figures as wickets for runs, like we do for everything (ie McGrath has 6 for 24), which could be argued as being confusing given it’s opposite to the batting totals, but also makes sense as the bowlers is aiming to get wickets and the runs are the expense of doing so.

Either way, no one is changing how they do things on either side of the fence. Luckily, it’s not generally an issue unless the score is 1/2 or something small like that.

Qld faces million-dollar fight to win back First Test for the Gabba

The Queensland government is likely to have to pay upwards of $1m and offer marketing and tourism support to Cricket Australia if it wants the First Test back, sources say.

It could be discussed as part of a package which could include white-ball international matches and winter cricket in regional Queensland.

WA Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti posted on social media this morning:

Thanks to the fast-finishing Ashes Test at Optus Stadium, hundreds of kilos of fresh food have been donated to Western Australians in need. When it became clear the match would wrap up early, the Optus Stadium team moved quickly to minimise waste.

Given the size of the donation - the biggest provided by the stadium to date - OzHarvest has partnered with two other local organisations, SecondBite and Foodbank WA to distribute the products to charities, schools, women’s refuges and individuals in need across Perth.

From stacked pallets of fruit and veg, to sandwiches, dairy and bread - even 450kg of tomatoes now being turned into passata - this is community spirit at its best.

Well it’s good to know that it’s not going to waste.

India has won the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, beating Nepal by seven wickets in the final in Colombo.

Not to sound condescending or rude in any way, but how do Blind people play cricket? I assume there’s some adjustment for it to work? Genuinely curious

The Blind Cricket Australia website has everything you need to know about the sport.

Update on this one.

Day 5 is all about India chasing the target of 549 runs. They’ve made 22 so far before stumps called.

Fascinating! An interesting read on the website

2 wickets down

Sounds like a Richie Benaud score - too for twenty too

I have to wonder with all these T20 and T10 leagues popping up in various parts of the world. Part of me thinks these are a vehicle for the Mumbai Mafia to wash their black cash.

South Africa have beaten India by 408 runs in the second test in Guwahati, which went into day 5. It was India’s biggest ever test defeat in terms of runs.

South Africa won the two-match series 2-0, also the Proteas’ first series win in India in 25 years.

Australia has named an unchanged squad for the second Ashes test, with no place for Pat Cummins.

Gotta love this opening paragraph from news.com.au.

England can breathe a small sigh of relief after Pat Cummins was left out of the Australian squad for the second Test in Brisbane.

Yeah, it was the exact same squad that defeated you in a two-dayer!

More like they are being overly cautious with Cummins. He walks straight back into that side, but winning the first test so quickly on the back of the bowling means they can play it safe.
