Cricket on Radio

Also a difficult product to sell locally (unlike football, which never struggles to sell)

Not going to lie, wouldn’t mind a Triple M DAB station in Hobart that carries the cricket

It was disappointing that Triple M Hobart didn’t broadcast the cricket when Hobart hosted an historic Ashes test in 2021 (in lieu of Perth that couldn’t host it due to Covid restrictions at the time).

It's @jimmaxcricket's 50th year at the ABC... so we asked the stars of the Aussie men's cricket team what their best memories of the Voice of Summer were! đŸ“»đŸ

ABC Radio’s commentary team for the first test was revealed last weekend on Grandstand: Jim Maxwell, Brett Sprigg, Clint Wheeldon, Alison Mitchell, Waqar Younis, Tom Moody and Phil Jaques.

It will also be ABC statistician Ric Finlay’s 50th test match.

Singer-songwriter Denis Carnahan has written and performed a special track The Voice of Summer as a tribute to Jim Maxwell. It was played during ABC Radio’s coverage of the first test between Australia and Pakistan today.

Stuart Clark and Glenn McGrath will be part of the ABC’s commentary team for the Boxing Day test between Australia and Pakistan.

Felt like they were short a caller yesterday, although I wasn’t listening all day. They had Middlemass, Jim and Ali along with Clark, McGrath and Waqar.

I think Matt Clinch is producing ABC Radio’s coverage and therefore unable to join in the commentary.

In comparison, SEN’s commentary team for this test is: Gerard Whateley, Adam Collins, Damien Fleming, Simon Katich, Ian Smith, Chris Rogers, Bharat Sundaresan, and Peter Lalor from The Australian.

Must have been a 1 off since it was The Ashes.

Further to the previous post of mine in this thread, Day 3 had Ben Cameron added to the ABC team but no Ali Mitchell who also didn’t appear on 7 save for a pre-recorded lunch segment (assume she was unwell)

Alison Mitchell returns to commentary today.

She said on ABC Radio this morning that she had a bit of an issue with migraine yesterday but is feeling better now.

On Grandstand this afternoon, Ben Cameron revealed that Andrew Moore would replace Corbin Middlemas for ABC’s commentary team for the third test between Australia and Pakistan at the SCG. The team is: Jim Maxwell, Andrew Moore, Alison Mitchell, Waqar Younis, Stuart Clark and Glenn McGrath.

Makes sense as Corbin is Melbourne based and Andrew is Sydney based.

Triple M are doing similar with some of their special experts (Mitchel Johnson for the Perth test, Merv Hughes for Melbourne).

Merv Hughes has been a surprisingly decent addition to the Triple M commentary team, but I do wonder whether his commentary team-mates are getting a bit sick of him. Thought there was going to be a blow-up between Merv and Mark Waugh after the teams left the ground for bad light today

In Sydney you can hear the big bash on SENTrack , and I think on am radio (didn’t check). Both SEN Fanatic and SEN 1170 have basketball. It isn’t clear in the app where to hear it on the “normal radio”.

I wonder if they’ll air the BBL at all while the Aus open is on?
They are claiming they’ll be broadcasting every BBL game.

If last night serves as a precedent Track might be utilised.

The ABC guide seems to have invented a third Test against the West Indies on the 4th-8th of February. Apparently it’s a day-night test at the SCG.

I mean, I wouldn’t mind an extra test personally but it’s an amusing error. Guessing someone did a copy/paste from the Sydney test listing for the ODI series and forgot to change the details.
