Have any Australian radio rights for the upcoming ICC World Cup been awarded? I canāt seem to find any info online.
Sen
ABC Radioās coverage of womenās cricket series between Australia and West Indies starts today with the first T20 match at North Sydney Oval. The broadcast starts at midday AEDT. Due to the ABCās commitments of NRL Grand Final day and AFLW, the cricket may not air on analogue radio, but can be heard on digital radio and ABC Listen app.
UPDATE: ABCās commentary team: Quentin Hull, Robin Chipperfield, Michelle Goszko and Kirsten Pike.
UPDATE 2/10: for game 2, Brett Sprigg replaced Robin as ball-by-ball commentator.
Quentin Hull confirmed during the live broadcast that the ABC had also bought the rights to the tournament, and would broadcast every match live on ABC Listen app.
Mainly via BBC commentary Iād imagine, Agnew has confirmed he has arrived in India to cover it.

ABC Radioās coverage of 2023/24 WBBL season started tonight with Sydney Sixers hosting Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval. The ABC will broadcast most matches during the season, on ABC Sport Digital and ABC Listen app.
Mitchell Johnson said in his podcast this week that he would also be part of Triple Mās commentary team this summer, however his name was absent from the stationās announcement.
ABC Radio has a full call of the four-day tour match between Prime Ministerās XI and Pakistan, starting in Canberra this morning. It can be heard on ABC Sport digital radio station and ABC Listen app.
Not on the ABC team any more or are they sharing?
No had a rather nasty split from the ABC before last summer.
Why is Triple M only having cricket on FM radio on its metro stations only and not the regionals? Surely there are more benefits to them if they did have it on both!
SENās coverage of 2023/2024 BBL season starts tomorrow (Thursday) with Brisbane Heat hosting Melbourne Stars at the Gabba. Coverage starts at 7pm AEDT.
This summer, SENās BBL coverage is also available on SENZ stations around New Zealand.
Lucky regionalsā¦
Most regional areas only have one adult FM station (i.e. Triple M) and plenty of people donāt like cricket.
I love my cricket but even I think itās the right call not having it on the regionals. Itās bad enough during the AFL/NRL when many regional areas find themselves without any station playing classic hits/adult contemporary music.
Yeah, Iāll second that. I drove through regional Triple M territory in NE Vic/Southern NSW a few summers back and with both ABC and the regional Triple M carrying cricket, it didnāt offer a lot of variety. Only one commercial station playing music was pretty limiting. Just leave ABC to do the cricket there and keep the music option open.
With the BBL back on and still exclusive to SEN, once again thereās no radio coverage in regional areas (aside from a handful of Resonate stations in Queensland).
Would be good if the ABC could get the rights to broadcast it in regional areas (even if there was a clause that it was terrestrial only to protect SEN). They could partner with the BBC who do their own coverage on a lot of games from a studio in England.
Would be similar to the old days of test cricket on ABC TV pre-aggregation.
ABC wouldnāt want to do it then
When did the Triple M regionals carry the cricket? I didnāt realise that ever happened. Was it just one summer?
If my memory serves me right, it was the Ashes summer of 2017-18 that Triple M regionals took the cricket.
Yeah, that would be about correct, canāt exactly remember which series it was though. But I recall hearing the Triple M call on the artists formerly known as 3BO/3SR/The River/2WG/2GZ FM as I drove north.
I also thought the rather blokey, capital city MMM-centric call didnāt really fit the profile of some of those stations either. So, right call overall not continuing the cricket across the regionals for mine.
