As seen in the above caps, Seven Melbourne has been providing extended coverage breaking away from the network for full coverage of these news briefings.
This has been reflected in the ratings for The Morning Show that has seen a big audience increase in that market. Yesterday, just as many Melbournites were watch TMS as Sunrise.
Not sure why Nine isn’t emulating this strategy.
Edit:
Today, Nine have broken away from the network - while the network is showing Today Extra coverage of the conference, today Nine are using the Nine News brand.
Some quick caps from the press conference on day 1 of lockdown 4.0. Interesting seeing how the different networks place the Auslan interpreter as PIP differently:
Nine’s decision to copy Seven’s practice paid off yesterday with Today Extra and Today Extra Late drawing big audiences in Melbourne. The Morning Show also did well again - The Morning Show Extra outrated TMS nationally.
This morning again Seven and Nine Melbourne branded the news conference (still going) with their news while nationally we saw TMS and Today Extra branding. ABC main channel did not cover today’s conference nationally unlike the previous two days. Seven and Nine’s coverage in Melbourne has extended beyond 11:30 am and the start of the morning bulletins.
Seven Melbourne did this all last year during Melbourne’s 3 month lockdown. Usually broke away from national programming during the Morning Show. It became common viewing for a lot of Victorians.
Same as it was at times last year. The Sunday Footy Show production team play the press conferences out (with Tony Jones on the show, he can talk in and out of them).
