COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

I feel like Stage 4 will work, although I don’t think 6 weeks will be enough. I can see the government extending it to maybe 8 weeks. And Stage 3 for another 4 weeks after that.

While they have the opportunity, I think they should be trying for elimination.

News is the one that is driving this:

Mention of ‘stage 5’ sparks panic:

Bloody hell. There is currently no such thing.

No government has had a Stage 5.

Get ready for an army officer standing out the front of every house!

Actually now that I think of it… China may have done a stage 5.

Well of sorts. Pretty much in hotspots no one was allowed to even leave their premises without proving that they’re healthy (using either QR code or negative test results).

Hope Victoria can successfully suppress COVID-19 in Stage 4 without even considering anything remotely close to Stage 5.

Didn’t they lock people in their apartment building?

Yes they did in certain parts of the country in the beginning (especially in Wuhan). Goods had to be delivered to everyone by authorities.

I think what is worse for me is knowing that the stage 4 lockdown is for six weeks so you know when it’s going to end and want it to get over and done with but then it may get extended. Unlike with the first lockdown we took each week as it come as we didn’t know when it’ll end.

Luckily if we reach Stage 6 we can use the warp zone to skip to a vaccine.

Don’t think Stage 4 will be considered to be successful if that happens. If the daily total remains that high by the end of the 6 week period, Melbourne will be in State 4 for much longer

Chemist Warehouse allowed to open?

If they’re a pharmacy, one would assume so.

Check the info, chemists stay open!

Yeah that would have made it a waste of time if we still have that number of cases. There is no reason that we shouldn’t be seeing a very sharp turn within the first 3 weeks. Our case numbers are low comparatively to a lot of countries that have gone this hard. We already had stabilised numbers and have extra measures that could start seeing a turn later in the week (impact of masks and hopefully a reduction in aged care transmission with the changes). Everything else will be another 10 days before tthe impacts are felt but think that’s when things will turn sharply. I know it’s being optimistic but there no reason it shouldn’t. There should soon be very few reasons that people catch this virus, particularly on regards to community transmission, and I’m confident these measures will cause a big turn.

Hopefully going into Stage 4 lockdown was the shock factor that the Government wanted for those who continued to break the rules in Stage 3. Hopefully the rule breakers realise now how serious this is. I just hope they don’t go back to rule breaking after Stage 4 is lifted.

The sooner the rules are followed, the sooner we get off Stage 4 lockdown and hopefully it’s six weeks max like planned.

Not that stage 5 is being considered by Victoria. But part of me feels that maybe the lockdown should be stricter - especially on those not complying and who are quarantining. I don’t want it to be 2 weeks time when we just say/think it should have been acted on quicker.

Much harsher and stricter quarantine rules and fines. This is a good thing.

$4957 on the spot fine now :joy:
Fantastic.

800 out of 3000 people who were meant to be isolating were not home when door knocked.

You’d think if you were isolating, common sense would’ve prevailed to not exercise?

People are :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: I swear.
