COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

Oh great, one of the documents mentions a 5th stage - that will fuel the media for weeks

That is an extreme measure and very unnecessary at this stage.

hopefully not

But Twitter told me the government’s communications strategy is perfect!

People already misunderstanding this thinking local.shops will close.

ā€œSupermarkets as well as grocery stores, the local fruit and veg, the local butcher, baker, they will remain open.ā€

Let the stage 5 fear campaigns begin!!

Listening to Brett Sutton today he seems to be pretty calm and confident that these measures will turn things around. He mentioned that he thinks the impact of masks could make an impact on numbers in the coming days, then the curfew/reasons to leave home changes a week later then the effects of the businesses shutting down coming in a few days after that. So hopefully in a couple of weeks things really do turn around. Let’s face it our numbers are nowhere near as high as some countries that went this hard… so I wonder if in the timeframe we have if elimination could be a realistic goal.

And News is first off the mark with this headline:

ā€˜HEARTBREAKING’: The extreme plan to save Victorians from stage 5:

didn’t see the full press conference, was there an explanation as to why the biggest virus spreading industry by far, meat processing, is still open? I would have thought that would be the #1 easy target.

Guessing, that livestock still needs to be killed and meat still needs to be processed? Otherwise the stock would be idle or have to be sent interstate to an abattoir?

It was mentioned on 10 News First tonight that Coles have been get meat from interstate for their Victorian stores due to the abattoir outbreaks

They are reduced to 25% of the workforce and must be in full PPE (like nurses in hospital).

Premier said it’s due to meat being critical to the food supply.

Victoria also supplies meat to the rest of the country.

How does someone get a permit allowing them to go to work? Not an essential worker, like a nurse etc, but someone who may be called on for emergency work.

its being announced later this week (possibly tomorrow)

I’m all for getting this under control… But wowzers, it’s starting to settle in and I guess the only way to express how it feels is… Fuuuuck!

How are all the Melbourne folk going after the double whammy? Everyone ok?

I’m glad we are here. So then we can be out of it altogether. (hopefully).

Hopefully everyone will obey the rules and all the efforts of those who do the right thing won’t be in vain.

I am thoroughly sick of the whingers, unbelievers, Victorian opposition, Bolt, Panahi and the rest of Murdoch’s army constantly attempting to undermine the Government, medical and scientific efforts.

For me, I’m more nervous about what will happen if this stage 4 lockdown doesn’t work. We went to stage 3, then wore masks, yet our cases continued to rise. Way too many people are looking for loopholes or excuses to break the rules. I’ve been so careful since I started working from home in March. I’ve only driven my car 11 times (7 for medical appointments, 2 for work, one to see a friend on my birthday and another for a haircut). I don’t think there is much more that I can do to protect myself, but there are so many others out there who just don’t give a damn. I just want to see things starting to improve, but until then it’s going to be quite stressful for a lot of people. (PS, thanks for asking).

My stress levels have actually reduced now that we’ve hit stage 4. It was hard seeing the daily numbers not improve the past couple of weeks but I’m confident we will turn this around now. It is hard that it feels like the 6 weeks is starting again but I’m happy to write winter off if it means we can get some normality back in spring.

Likewise, like many others I have made sacrifices. Not that I was a huge social butterfly pre- COVID19… but I keep to myself even more now. I’ve not been a total angel (I’ve gone out for non essential shopping three times since March… haven’t done so since May though!). My food shopping is done straight after work (Which is now kind of in the air, we’re supposedly staying open for online orders… but I’d imagine they don’t need 30+ people a day for it lol), my two days off are spent doing housework, light exercise and movie marathon watching or video gaming.

I’d like to hope we would have severely cut the daily totals from 300-500 to under 200 per day by then. Logically it should be fairly simple 6 weeks, potentially 3 cycles of the virus would have finished by then ? However knowing how long it’s already been… we’ll still have 200+ new cases a day this time next year!
