There’s a difference though - the law and order campaign the Liberals ran last election misread the public’s perception about the extent of the issue/problem (depending on how you considered it). By contrast, everyone has been impacted by the stay-at-home orders and the associated restrictions/measures which have/will be linked to them
I don’t think “we would have done it better” from the state Liberals would cut through when there’s, despite attempts to delete them now, the overwhelming “open up” tide of messaging.
I think the elections this year might be referenda on covid response, the key will be managing growth out the other side, and that’s certainly what the conversation will be by 2022, not trying to rerun a fight over mistakes in crisis management.
They could right now be having debates on stuff like what business support measures are needed, or what infrastructure projects would make good priority ones for a post covid construction boost. But there’s too much disorganisation and extremism in their ranks, so they’ll continue to barely make the news with their irrelevant comments.
BREAKING.
Doc around twitter not sure on 100% Heidi is trying to confirm but bloody detailed. Looks legit

That’s a no to Bunnings also. Bunnings Trade looks like it might be good.
Trump is a joke. He’s trying to use Australia as a scapegoat to make his followers think that the problem they have is worse in other places (cos we’ve out in such harsh restrictions). The vast difference is that our Governments response has been to take this far more seriously - we are actually putting in significantly harsher restrictions than they’ve ever had in the US when we still have significantly less positives per capita than the USA. If US authorities tried to put in stage 4 style restrictions in the US there would be riots. Not to mention that Australia has managed to contain an outbreak to one state and 7/8 states are doing pretty well (some with 0 cases). The problem in the US is widespread and out of control.
If Trump thinks America is doing great guns right now, I’d hate to think about America in the worst case scenario.
The AFR is reporting this
It says Television Broadcasting is on the list to stay open.
Andrews’ press conference is scheduled to start at 3:15pm
I agree with you there. Some people are praising Daniel Andrews for his leadership, mopping up the mess that should NEVER have started under his watch.
There is a middle ground between being destructive (like the Libs are with their constant negativity - which basically undermines the government’s authority) and heaping unwarranted praise upon a government which utterly failed in its role to contain the outbreak.
Daniel Andrews should probably take a few days off, and I wouldn’t criticise him if he did. I don’t envy his position, he looks like he’s about to crack.
That list says specialised food stores like fresh meat store and fish store are to close. That’s incorrect, as Daniel Andrews pointed out yesterday that butchers and food stores could stay open.
Also under that unconfirmed list, government-funded projects like Melbourne Metro, West Gate Tunnel and level crossings removal works can continue, as well as private construction projects currently underway. Not sure about manufacturing of new trains for Melbourne Metro though, as it falls under transport equipment manufacturing category.
Puffing Billy is already closed as it is a tourist attraction, but can’t be shut down altogether as volunteers are required to maintain trains and other infrastructure.
Landlords are going to need to take a haircut here also. That’s a lot of square feet of retail about to be put on hold. The likes of Westfield etc have had bad press in recent months for giving zero assistance.
I’ve been watching him speak recently and noticed a tinge of silver on his head that never used to exist.
Poor guy. He’s worked so hard to contain the spread in his state but thanks to a bunch of people who thinks they’re above the law it’s worse than before.
not helped by the constant sniping from the Liberals and News Corp columnists that have undermined much of the government messaging
I do worry for Andrews’ mental health. This must be taking a huge toll in him working six months now with barely a day off
I’d like to think that those liberal MPs and columnists that criticise Daniel Andrews would pretty much wet themselves if they were presented with the same situation. They’d be far worse off at handling a crisis like this yet they have the balls to criticise Andrews who, despite being a tad slow, acted on accurate and recommended advice from health officials.

Hopefully these fines will be for companies who flout the rules. Bet not.
Daniel Andrews said that for the public, they could call for a plumber to fix a burst water pipe, but could not call for tradesmen for a painting job or home renovation.
There’ll be no cleaners going to your house. There’ll be no-one mowing your lawns. There’ll be no-one providing anything other than emergency support.
If you need a plumber because a pipe has burst, then yes, you can have a plumber come and do that work. But it’s not the time to be painting your house or having unnecessary work happen.
