COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

Calling these fuckwits dickheads isn’t too much.

Glad I don’t work for you.

I wonder if that person went to Springvale to buy Asian groceries? He or she could have driven to Footscray or Sunshine which is closer to Werribee, even though the range and price may not be as good as those in Springvale.
I guess this is the dilemma many ethnic communities who live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne are facing. If they are not able to shop locally, should they risk getting a big fine just to drive to another suburb to get what they need?

And perhaps permanently. Is this what we really want?

Why permanently? In NZ things are running very smoothly with most businesses surviving a stage 4 lockdown.

I know a lot of people don’t have access to the internet but I have in the past found that some shops are happy to do online shopping etc. Unfortunately people are just going to have to make do with what is close or use online services.

I don’t agree with this. People have been fired or sacked for posting stupid things on their twitter account. You are representing your company brand on twitter even if it’s personal account. Especially if she’s representing a network and has her job description and the company she is working for.
It’s not just about her.

I agree with David it does make her look unprofessional who would want to take her seriously now? If she ever to go for a new position employers and recruiters search social media to see what candidates have posted and if they saw this and she can’t be objective in her language when posting on stats as a journalist then that would not make her look favoured upon the prospect employer.

Hey the world would be boring if we agreed😜

You’re completely ignoring the fact that if this was breaking any rules at Seven she wouldn’t be doing it, no ifs ands or buts.

Employers and recruiters would be well versed in the fact that pretty much every business in 2020 has a social media code of conduct and she would have had to get approval to use that language.

But this isn’t about breaking rules and whether 7 allow this level of unprofessionalism or not, its how it looks. And it looks bad. She’s representing a business and just because 7 appear to believe its okay to do doesnt mean its right. News reporting is meant to be non biased and personal opinions kept to yourself. I want the news, not their opinions.

Side note. She’s right. These people are dick heads but she shouldn’t be saying it when reporting official updates.

I feel you’d have more of a point if she was tweeting about COVID Cunts rather than Daily Dickheads, it’s very tame.
Relatability to the audience is very important when you’re working in downmarket / commercial / tabloid TV news media…

No one wants business to collapse, but its been said before and it will be said again - we cannot make decisions on how to fight the pandemic on economic grounds.

Increasing case numbers will overwhelm our ability to test, fight and recover from the virus and it puts not just Melbourne, but both greater Victoria and the nation at greater risk. If we decide that the economic situation is a bigger concern, we might as well give up fighting the virus, because the evidence is clear - lockdowns work at suppressing the spread.

Yeah, and sorry but this aint it - I actually think its time we start calling these idiots out and this series of tweets does this. The vast majority of the people that she has highlighted in these posts have shown themselves to be selfish and stupid - its time the media and our politicians call them out for it.

I think the fact that her breakdown is the one that cuts through and gets shared (including here) is indicative that it’s the one with the right tone. I’m sure there’d be another journalist who also shared the same numbers/details in a more proper manner at the same time - but theirs won’t get shared anywhere near as much.

It doesn’t serve a purpose for her escept to engage in an emotional reaction and clearly it has worked but I totally disagree with how she uses the term. We won’t see eye to eye on this , but if you are going to get political on twitter make sure you do it in a way that doesn’t bring your organization into disrepute. That’s all I am saying.

If her company okayed the post then thats fine. But the optics of it meh i don’t like it. That’s just me. I don’t follow her on twitter, so i can only imagine based on her use of “dickhead” and for me I wouldn’t want to employe her and no it’s not discrimination.

stop looking for loopholes to justify people’s behaviour. If you live in Werribee, in the current environment there is no need to go shopping in Springvale. End of.

Gotta love someone taking a photo with about 7 people in it (that aren’t even close and are all masked) to sensationalise that people are doing the wrong thing. It’s a sunny day in Melbourne today. Of course more people are going to be out walking or choose to do the things they need to when it’s nice. If it’s for essentials, they are locals, masked, distancing etc then so what? I’d rather call out or make a big deal on the people that are blatantly breaking rules, leaving home sick etc.

I went for my walk today and added a good 30 minutes to it because it was so nice being out. I am also in the same council area as Chapel and walked a similar close by inner suburban shopping street that is usually busy but it probably had about 1/5 of the usual foot traffic. At least 1/3 of the shops/cafes on the street were shut too. Its obviously not worth their while. I also could’ve taken a photo to make it look busy at some point, even though it wasn’t. I don’t think I saw a single person without a mask today either which was great to see.

In my limited travels which have largely just been going from home to work then back home, it is pleasing to see pretty much 100% compliance with masks in the general public.

Yep sure is. I really hope it makes a difference. We might start seeing the impacts of it in numbers the next couple of days. Hopefully it helps start driving down community transmission.

I’m not anti leaving the house either, but why do people need to go out as couples or families? We haven’t been out as a couple or family for months now. This is probably an instance where masks are giving people a false sense of security.

No. Are you breaking the rules and travelling to the suburbs to shop because you’re not satisfied with the groceries at your local supermarket?

According to posts on Twitter someone leaked what is supposedly the result of a Victoria cabinet meeting. It seems that is what is festering the Stage 4 lockdown rumours on Twitter and Facebook.

I think it’s been pretty proven to be fake. The numerous grammatical errors would validate that.
