You would think that there shouldn’t be. The purpose of easing out is when you’ve had a period of widespread transmission incase there are chains of transmission out there that havn’t been captured. This cluster has remained completely contained and so far there are absolutely no reasons to extend the lockdown or expect an extended period of tough restrictions. I just couldn’t see any justification for gyms etc to suffer more when there has been no transmission in them. I would expect there to be a few minor broader things like that limit on private gatherings and maybe mask mandate in more settings for longer period.
Yeah I think the timing of the exposure sites added in the very early afternoon indicate it’s a case that was known last night or this morning. Likely they’ve added the mother of that child as a case - she supposedly was a weak positive but if this strain is as infectious as they are saying it is then I can’t see how a kids parent would not test positive. It is expected.

Good sign that no further exposure sites were added overnight apart from the ones added late yesterday afternoon (QVM and Yarra Trams No. 11 and 58). Majority of yesterday’s tests would’ve been processed overnight.

I assume that is the mother of the child? That is to be expected and if that’s the only new case, it means since Friday all cases have been attendees of the function which all have been tested now.
In that sense I’m still trying to work out what the purpose of continuing this lockdown is. It seems like all the high exposure sites like Brunetti and the private function have been tested and are accounted for. If there are no new cases by tomorrow surely they have the ring around any potential transmission and they can start talking about lifting it.
Another delay in numbers today.

That would be logical… which ain’t how the Victorian Government seem to think… this is a hyper infectious, super smart virus travelling at hyper-speed. The buzzwords alone would make your head spin.
Not to mention that the whole reason for this lockdown was because of its “hyper speed infectiousness” and now that it is proven that the worker who we originally thought passed it on super quickly to close contacts was actually a weak positive/false negative on the 7th we should be doing an SA and saying it’s not actually as bad as we thought and end the lockdown - but admitting they were wrong is also not a strong suit of this government.

Daniel Andrews currently speaking: I am not in a position currently to confirm that the 5day lockdown will end on Wednesday. I am able to say you never want cases but these numbers are pleasing and I think we are well placed, however, I have never been one to try and make predictions, we just have to take this 1 hr at a time , one day at a time, but I think this is a promising start these last 3 days. those test numbers yesterday are a very strong result on a Sunday of more than 25,000. I am proud and very pleased with the way Victorians are dealing with this and we just have to wait though to see how things unfold today and tomorrow and throughout Wednesday. we are well placed right now, but right now is to early to be definitive about Wednesday evening

Don’t they have to wait for the incubation period for any contacts of positive cases, and re-tests for those people?
I gather that like SA, Vic Health dept saw a sudden surge & worried that B.1.1.7 (British strain) was moving faster, but now with the extra few days of testing & tracing it seems that there were some ‘false negative’ test results early on (before a person’s viral load is high enough to test positive).
This is just an unfortunate thing about the incubation period, but it is safer to err on the side of caution, impose restrictions (even lockdown in some circumstances). The alternative is months of lockdown because it gets out of control.
In that case the point of 5 days is also pointless then as the incubation period of 14 days.
