COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

What did she ask?

She [Leigh Sales] seems to be pushing the false narrative that the lockdown is imposing a cost, ignoring the bigger cost when the virus gets out of control.

I hope she asks Morrison where the ‘front of the queue’ vaccinations are.

What TV-ACT said and also pushing the point that lockdown as a tool to respond isn’t that necessary when it is evident the contact tracing team were on top of this etc - he definitely didn’t answer the questions with much more than the hyperbolic spin that we’ve seen over the past year.

There better be a plan to jab every single HQ worker immediately upon the vaccine landing AU.

Good question just now; I think Andrews may have conflated B.1.1.7 (British strain) being more infectious (correct) vs it having a shorter incubation period (unclear, but Vic CHO is saying it appears 1 - 2 d shorter than the original Wuhan virus).
Such confusion is easily made, especially by non-experts, given how a more infectious variant will appear to spread fast until the investigation shows all the contacts.

Is Leigh Sales the new Peta Credlin at press conferences who promised to be at every press conferences yet she only shown up to a couple while spreading false information?

Yeah, & why would Leigh Sales have travelled to Melbourne when it’s in lockdown. Bizarre. Or was she already in Melbourne?

Vic CHO pointing out there may be 1000s of contacts that they need to trace, a huge number, so the 5 d lockdown seems to make sense here; Leigh Sales seems to be repeating her earlier questions.

He’s also pointed out not everybody reads the notifications and so don’t isolate & test until contacted by the Health dept.

Good question from the guy in the beard (time between tests & household contacts exposure).

Your latter point is valid but to suggest that the current lockdown hasn’t imposed a cost just isn’t correct considering (for example) the impact it’s had on particularly florists and hospitality industry on their biggest weekend of the year

Not even close. Peta Credlin has very clear biases and her attempts at journalism was just to tarnish a labour government.

Leigh is asking quite good questions about the requirement for lockdown when from all evidence it appears that the contact tracing within the Dept of Health is in fact up to scratch and the event is contained.

Also, Brett using Brunettis as another example is such an overreach, the nature of it being in an airport would indicate most if not all those there were flying on to subsequent destinations away from Victoria - so whilst it might be the potential for a super spreader event it actually wouldn’t impact Victoria, so it used as another reason for lockdown is a bit bewildering.

I work in the airport precinct and have previously worked within airport terminals. Despite being airside, people who aren’t travelling do use these facilities daily.

People in my office have used the T4 Brunetti’s for catering etc, I use the T4 food court for lunch probably about once a fortnight. Last time I was there the week before this blew up there was a group of Department of Health AOs having lunch. It’s a thing that happens in real life even if to anyone outsider it seems illogical.

Dan Andrews : the issue here though is every case on its merits, the individual circumstance of every case, where they have been, do we have a handle on all the people they have been with, how long have they been out and about, and that’s why a shutdown makes that task much easier coz you don’t have that almost unlimited movement. that’s why you have to go to that short sharp lockdown as painful as it is coz it means you don’t just have time but you have limited movement and that’s the most important thing with this

Setting up Wednesday to come out of lockdown with a whole bunch of restrictions still in place no doubt.

It is again people not wanting Daniel Andrews even slightly questioned. The media are there to hold the government accountable. Again we are not in a dictatorship so questions are allowed to be asked. And Daniel Andrews and the Victorian government have made fundamental mistakes and kept information from the public so questions are indeed allowed to be asked.

To be fair that is to be expected and it does need to be a cautious approach.

Brett Sutton is speaking now and not taking any nonsense from the journos he was asked was there any evidence or advice for longer than a 5 day lockdown. there was advice for a 5day lockdown which was agreed and discussed at cabinet

brett was also asked since he makes the ultimate de session about the lockdown ending on Wednesday night how did does he fell about it so far. it’s going as well as we could expect, every single case is being linked. those immediate and social and household close contacts testing negative. that’s all terrific news. I am always aware we can have a day where something comes completely out of the left field. I hope that doesn’t happen and we need to be alive to that

Many people on Twitter didn’t like Leigh’s presence.

and whatever the settings come Thursday. I was looking at both Brisbane and Perth it would be for two weeks only. Andrews did say Saturday we could revert back to Thursdays restrictions but we will just have to wait and see

Still a shame to see regional Victoria in lockdown.

They must be taken out of lockdown, this is unfair on them.

What, like the restrictions already in place prior to this snap lock down?

Most people don’t enjoy opening their sewer inspection point.

Twitter and facebook rarely display diversity of opinion, Twitter especially is anti traditional journalismand over protective of Labor politicians for the most part.

Anyhow, seems she got stuck here following a visit for a friend’s birthday.
