COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

health minister Martin Foley, the Cho Brett Sutton and the DHS testing commander Jeroen Weimar to speak at 12pm

Nah, the Australian federal government has put a limit on international arrivals, and that cap is what’s preventing Australians getting home.

The federal government should’ve started building dedicated quarantine facilities early last year, and by now everyone should’ve been able to fly back (wearing masks, etc. of course), and been quarantined long enough to prevent all these repeated outbreaks we’re instead having.

I’d still expect much reduced capacity in each plane, but not to the current extent.

Agree that the government shouldn’t have limited the welfare payments as they did, and that people who are permanent residents should be a higher priority than those who aren’t (and it would’ve at least avoided cases of people having to fly out to sort a dying relative’s affairs then being stranded overseas, away from their spouse & children).

And yes, preventing citizens from returning, and for so many months, is most likely illegal.

The Age reports a dozen refugees detained at the Park Hotel in Carlton, in Melbourne’s inner north, remain confined to their hotel rooms, after they were informed late last night a security guard was showing COVID symptoms and had been told to isolate.

The stats that Martin outlined this morning showed some pretty good signs on the cluster. Of the 120+ odd people that have been deemed primary close contacts, they are only waiting on 2 results and all others have tested negative. There is a further ring around that of secondary contacts totaling 940 odd in isolation.

Good to hear as well that the exposure site of most concern, Brunetti at Melb Airport, all staff have tested negative and they have also almost completed testing most customers in Victoria with negative results.

Seems the CQV Holiday Inn worker who attended the Coburg function on Feb 6 received a false negative result on Feb 7 after a review was completed. The worker then tested positive on Feb 10.

They also tested negative on Feb 3 and Feb 4 as well.

So did they catch it prior to Feb 4 but did not show a positive result until Feb 7?

So is there now 3 different current clusters? The DHHS wesbite has three clusters listed:

Holiday Inn - 14 active cases
Park Royal Tullamarine - 1 active case
Grand Hyatt - 1 active case

What is the Park Royal case? Have they given details of this one?

Yes, from February 3 -

since its been reported that al of the 12 colleagues of the covid worker at the brunette cafe have returned negative results and so have the 13 customers. since also its been reported that case was the reason for lockdown. what do we thinking about lockdown ending on Wednesday?

Give it another two days. Things can change so crazy quick.

They don’t have a great track record sticking to any form of ā€˜dates’. Can’t say I’ll be blown away if pushed on.

I’m just more worried about any ā€˜easing’ out of the lockdown. Like keeping gyms closed etc. bullshit like that pisses me off

Remember the close contacts that tested positive recently initially tested negative. So the same could happen to the cafe workers. But I would hope as long as all cases are ones they have as primary contacts then the lockdown should end on Wednesday:

Take a look of these added exposure sites, including the Queen VIC market.

Must have been more cases today. I don’t understand how all these locations keep popping up when they had all primary contacts isolating and had the contacts of contacts system implemented. I wonder if Victoria had a better QR system like SA and NSW whether they would have got this information earlier.

In addition, I find this quite appalling.

I am not sure I didn’t watch the presser today. But the government said the lockdown is only 5 days so I am not sure why you are insisting this matters.

Deidre Chambers, what a coincidence.

When will these fundamentalist ā€œChtistiansā€ realise the far right are playing them like a fiddle?
