Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) has cancelled the rest of its 2020 season, meaning more than 300 people including actors, creatives, specialised makers, show crew and production, front of house and back of house staff, have lost their jobs.
First event for 2021 to be cancelled. The City of Port Phillip has voted to cancel the St Kilda Festival for next year and will return in 2022.

Currently at the moment, itâs probably not the best conditions to run it but itâs still six months away. Anything could happen between now and then. Have they pulled the trigger too early?
Youâd say that, the Midsumma Festival that is normally held in mid-January would be cancelled too? Which will be a shame as itâs normally a good day to attend.
Thereâd be a lot of planning, commitments and bookings which have to be made in those 6 months before an event can go ahead, so 6 months isnât really a long time, and there could be significant financial costs if they proceeded and cancelled closer to the event (bills the organisers would still have to pay even if they didnât end up using the facilities or services).
By the same token, next yearâs Melbourne International Comedy Festival could also be under threat, because organisers have to book in comedians from across Australia (travel restrictions mean overseas performers probably wonât be able to appear). It will be devastating if the event is cancelled two years in a row.
If weâre being realistic, surely most major events usually scheduled for the first half of the year (the second half might be different, but of course we donât know what could happen between now and then) are not likely to go ahead in 2021?
We probably wonât have any vaccine until mid-next year at the earliest, so if we have to wait until 2022 for the return of some things, then so be it.
Racing Victoria said on Saturday morning that six Cranbourne stables â including Laming, Busuttin and Young, Wendy Kelly, Nathan Dunn, Michael Trotter, Adrian McGregor and Tom Nikolic â have all been locked down.
Three jockeys who rode trackwork for Laming â Alexandra Bryan, Michael Walker and Jason Benbow â âhave also been stood down from riding pending COVID-19 testing and clearance from the Stewards and CMO (Chief Medical Officer Brett Sutton)â.
For Racing Victoria to not have a case until now is pretty good but I guess it was only a matter of time though
The Herald Sun cycling tour is the latest sporting event to fall victim to COVID-19. Organisers have decided to cancel next yearâs event, which was scheduled for regional Victoria and Melbourne in early February, and are now planning for 2022.
Yes⌠it seems to be the start of the cancelation for 2021 events now.
I totally misread this headline at first - that he tested +ve, recovered and then got it again - probably the first person ever!
The seven Cranbourne stables and the jockeys who rode trackwork for Richard Laming were given the all-clear by Racing Victoria yesterday, after all 88 tests taken from stable staff returning negative.
Football Federation Australiaâs failure to gain the Roar an exemption from the Queensland government has forced them in to isolation at the Novotel (in Brisbane) until September 7.
Pleas for two people per room and a common area in the hotel for the players to congregate fell also on deaf ears.
Instead, players, coaches and staff must stay by themselves in rooms, apart from an odd 10-minute period of fresh air within the hotel property with only three other people.
Moon slammed the inconsistencies that forced the Roar into âhardâ hotel quarantine, while departing Broncos coach Anthony Seibold was able to serve a quarantine period at home in Brisbane., and NRL and AFL teams were granted exemptions.
Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast would not go ahead this year.
Not a bad thing to be honest. Youâve got an entire life time to get wasted, whip it out, get embarrassing tattoos etc. Save your money.
I expect that even though the major govt funded activities will be cancelled, that schoolies will still flock to the coast and no doubt be caught out by the 10 people gathering limit that starts on the GC on Saturday.
I wonder if other states and territories will follow Queensland and cancel their own schoolies celebrations? Many year 12 students are smart enough to decide how to celebrate the end of the school year safely and legally.
