WA has only just moved to 75% capacity this week (from 60% IIRC) and I believe all other states are still equal to or lower, I don’t think they’re going to get anywhere with this request to go straight to 100%.
It’s called “they want preferential treatment”. I do feel for them, with that industry being shafted a lot during this pandemic, but they can’t go to the top of the queue. Sadly, more government assistance is needed, but they won’t get it, since governments seem to hate the arts, any sort of art really.
I think the Victorian venues are in a far worse financial situation than other states due to the two lockdowns in Melbourne last year, hence their request to return to full capacity.
Thousands of pupils will miss out on taking part in one of the biggest national sporting events after it was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.
The School Sport Australia National Championships, which offers interstate competitions for primary and secondary students, said on its website the competition “was not viable” due to ongoing volatility caused by COVID-19 outbreaks, hot spot declarations and border closures.

Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino had written to School Sport Australia, asking the body to reverse the decision.
3AW adds that there will be COVID marshals at the morning parade to discourage crowds from gathering, and the public has been urged to pay tribute to the nation’s armed services either outside their homes at dawn (as was the case last year) or one of 400 local events across Victoria.
However, several suburban Anzac Day marches had already been cancelled because the local RSLs did not have the resources to control the large crowds expected to attend.
Has any other clubs included facemasks as part of members packs this year? The Swans have for certain categories. Ignore the ugly bastard wearing the mask.
Hopefully this will pave the way for NZ teams taking part in Australian sporting competitions (Warriors, Phoenix and Breakers) to be finally able to play matches at home, from as early as Anzac Day weekend. The Warriors are facing the Storm in the NRL in Melbourne on Anzac Day.

Good news for live performance venues which are seeking to return full capacity (with a COVID-safe plan). Hope other states will follow suit.
UPDATE: Victoria has eased restrictions on venue capacity as well.
From midnight tonight, Friday 9 April, Victoria will move to allowing 100 per cent of seated indoor and outdoor capacity for entertainment, cultural and sporting venues up to a maximum of 1,000 patrons per space.
As part of the UK Government’s COVID-19 roadmap, fans will be allowed into the FA Cup second semi final at Wembley on April 18, the English League Cup final at the same ground on April 25, as well as the last two rounds of Premier League in May.
Unfortunately this tour has been postponed to next year, and the organisers put the blame on the Federal Government’s bungled rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.

This afternoon’s announcement that Perth and Peel region of WA will enter a 3-day lockdown at midnight local time is affecting several sporting events this weekend.
WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson added that public sporting events from midnight tonight over the next three days would only be allowed to have professional players and officials in attendance. The public would not be allowed into those venues.
Community sport would be cancelled, including all WAFL fixtures this weekend.
UPDATE 1: the lockdown was discussed on 3AW’s pre-match coverage this evening. Herald Sun’s Michael Warner said North Melbourne are seeking a charter flight right after their match against Fremantle. Also, upcoming fixtures involving West Coast, Fremantle and North Melbourne are up in the air.
UPDATE 2: the A-League clash between Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory has been postponed as the result of the Perth’s 3-day lockdown.
UPDATE 3: Saturday’s AFL match between Geelong and West Coast will go ahead after players and staff returned negative COVID-19 test results, however Eagles fans who have travelled from WA won’t be allowed to attend.
UPDATE:
They should get out of the country ASAP
Kangaroos players and coaches flew back from Perth to Melbourne on Sunday, after losing to Fremantle the previous night, and went straight into self-isolation until they were cleared to come out at midnight Wednesday. Players were allowed to train during the self-isolation period.
Disneyland at Anaheim, California had reopened to the public after it was shut for 13 months due to the pandemic. At the moment, interstate visitors are not allowed.
Meanwhile, the Australian round of the World Superbike Championship has been axed for 2021 due to the pandemic. It was due to be held at Phillip Island Circuit.
