After it was cancelled in April due to COVID-19 concerns in the Byron Bay area, Bluesfest will now held on October 1-4 this year, which is the Labour Day long weekend in NSW.

The entire Australian team was disqualified from the event because they were deemed close contacts of the three team members who tested positive.

One of those who contracted COVID, Charlotte Heath from Victoria, confirmed her diagnosis on Instagram, saying she was “bummed about not being able to compete” in the US event.

Other members of the team have returned multiple negative PCR tests, including Australia’s top-ranked female skateboarder, Poppy Olsen, who has already qualified for Tokyo.

Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino announced this morning that the whole state would go into 7 day “circuit breaker” lockdown from midnight AEST tonight. He said professional sport (e.g. AFL and horse racing) could continue during the period, but without crowds.

Also:

UPDATE 2: Supercars have postponed this weekend’s Supersprint race at Winton in northern Victoria.

UPDATE 3: The NBL has moved two matches between Cairns Taipans and Melbourne teams to Cairns Pop-Up Arena.

UPDATE 4: this week’s VFL and VFLW matches, including those in Queensland, have been postponed.

Rising festival, which replaces White Night and only launched last night, had been suspended indefinitely due to Victoria’s 7-day lockdown. It was due to finish on June 6.

If they’ve decided that already presumably it’s because of the Australian Government’s attitude on international travel, failures with quarantine, and failure to vaccinate the population.
Didn’t Morrison say Australia won’t be vaccinated and open up until 2022, and the GP is in March?
It sounds a bit close for F1.

Nope… a decision had to be made now.

Turns out it isn’t about the 2022 GP but this year’s GP, which was delayed until November, so yeah, definitely needed to be cancelled now.

The Victorian Government officially confirmed the Australian F1 and MotoGP had both been cancelled for this year. Also note the third last paragraph.
