COVID-19: Essential Shopping/Retail (Supermarkets, Food, Jigsaws etc)

Woolworths has announced today that they’ll remove all product limits, except for toilet paper across Victoria from tomorrow as they have seen a decrease in demand.

Lorna Jane has now removed the anti-virus claims from their website. They state the garments were created prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yeah, but it still has an odour of cashing in on fear.

A lot of active-wear has this claim in relation to anti-microbal / bacterial properties - it’s the use of the term virus that would have got them in trouble.

Found this on social media earlier today. Apparently Target have put a mirror on their face marks display in their stores so customers can try them on

Sure that’s not Target US? I’ve not seen masks in my local target, though it’s been a month or so since I’ve been in there so maybe it changed.

firstly that’s obviously Target US.
secondly as most of the social media dialogue implies, it’s likely a reused sunglasses fixture and they didn’t take the mirror off.

The Yanks aren’t very smart by not removing the mirror then. It’s one way to continue the spread.

That’s an understatement.

According to Herald Sun, Melbourne’s major shopping centres including Chadstone, The Glen and Northland, as well as Myer, Bunnings and Kmart, will deny entry to customers who refuse to wear a face covering from tomorrow, when it will be compulsory in the city. Customers not wearing a mask will be asked to buy and wear one as soon as possible. If they refuse they’ll be asked to leave. Those not wearing a mask because of a medical condition will be asked to show proof from their doctor.
It will be interesting to see if there will be security staff at shopping centre entrances at street level and also underground carparks to check on people wearing a mask or not.

Will masks be available for sale outside the shopping centres, I wonder? It would be stupid to let people go inside to buy one.

Use an old t-shirt or rag to get into the place, then buy a proper mask. I don’t understand what’s so hard about it.

I’m rounding up all my old Canteen bandanas and using those. There are plenty of tutorials on how to make a face mask from a bandana on YouTube. Figured I might need one when I go to the footy this weekend (if Gladys the Ungroovy Mule doesn’t lock us down…again #IWorkForNSW)…

I’m constantly getting asked where did I get my black mask from ? I was given a few from a friend. It’s a great mask if you’re intending on staying quiet. However having to talk and the mask is not a great fit for the face - thus when talking the mask either rides up to the nose, or drops under the chin.

I purchased disposable masks from Chemist Warehouse on Sunday, tried the first one yesterday… had a much more comfortable experience.

I’ve ordered a bunch of reusable masks, some from clothing companies, others more domestic/home made.

Being a retail worker, my store is generally dead… I know it’s good because it means people are staying away. Being selfish its bad on several fronts - I worry about store budgets being cut back, meaning people will be asked to take holidays and/or have hours slashed permanently. The last lock down our budgets took a nose dive, it’s happening again this time around (well derrr I hear you say!). Other people have the viewpoint of feeling secure because hey are contracted. I’ve read the EBA we have, worse case scenario if the business is severely impacted by the downturn - any of us could be out the door being made redundant because there is no work to do. We all still manage to do our daily tasks, there’s always something to do which justifies us all still working there. But the store hasn’t had a profitable day for a few weeks. Actually this second lockdown period has been slightly better, the previous lock down saw us miss budget by anywhere from $20,000-$30,000. Our budgets are smaller (our budgets were sky high over Easter for some reason!!) and thus we’re only missing budget by $5,000-$10,000 most days.

I have enough leave (not so much of a workaholic, I just didn’t really take much leave in my first few years of working there) to sit at home through a few months. But I’m one of the few people that enjoys various aspects of retail work (it’s routine, keeps my brain ticking along AND physically active - almost like I’m being paid to exercise lol). I have enough video games and movies/tv series to watch if there’s a more strict lock down to come… I just don’t want to turn into a couch potato.

With no customers, it means nobody is buying stock (particularly clothing), which makes it hard for those of us who may (or may not dr evil finger pose) work in that side of the store. Not being able to fit NEW stock that has arrived for that particular time period is both annoying and stressful.

I’m doing my bit as a shopper (only shopping at other stores before or after my shift starts. I stay at home otherwise!!!), picking up the occasional new movie to watch. No Jigsaw puzzles, although there’s a new Lego based on the Nintendo and Super Mario Bros releasing early August that I might try to buy :stuck_out_tongue:

Same in WA. Not looking forward to the viral marketing that will no doubt pop up over the weekend on reddit as well as millennial / zoomer focused media.

In NSW and the ACT, customers and staff in all stores will be “strongly encouraged” to wear a mask from Monday August 3. In Queensland it is from tomorrow Friday.

For: Woolworths Supermarkets, Woolworths Metro Food Stores, BIG W, Dan Murphy’s, BWS and ALH Hotels

From Woolwortths

https://www.woolworthsgroup.com.au/page/about-us/our-covid-19-response

With the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in NSW, customers, teams and visitors across all Woolworths Group stores and sites in NSW and ACT will be strongly encouraged to wear face coverings from Monday 3 August.

In Queensland, customers and teams across Woolworths Group stores and sites within hot spot areas will also be strongly encouraged to wear face coverings from tomorrow.

The guidance is for Woolworths Supermarkets, Woolworths Metro Food Stores, BIG W, Dan Murphy’s, BWS and ALH Hotels.

This is in addition to the mandatory requirements for face coverings in all of Victoria, currently in place across Melbourne and Mitchell shires, with the entire state now included from Sunday.

Pity they didn’t give a list of the QLD stores.

Luckily Woolworths sells masks

Finally a list of the “hotspot areas”:

  • Brookwater
  • Browns Plains
  • Browns Plains Westpoint
  • Chatswood Hills
  • Park Ridge
  • Springfield
  • Springwood
  • Sunnybank

Apparently KFC’s Victorian outlets are running out of chicken.

Seems appropriate for me to post this:
