COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

I heard of her, she should really learn that Australia and the US are close allies and focus on issues in her own country and yes she does have connections with other right wing crazies such as Ben Shapiro, Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson who also fail to mind their own country’s business

Love how the ‘friend’ is from Queensland - where they are proud of having few rules, and they have just listed rules from every state over the course of the pandemic, trying to make it sound like they are all happening at once.

I don’t think she’s nuts I think she needs a good history lesson.

Well I made the mistake of also reading the comments. Wow 🤦🤡

Remember, this is the woman who once said that the “problem” with Hitler was “he had dreams outside of Germany” and that "if he just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well — OK, fine.”

QLD Update: 0 community cases. 5 HQ cases.

Yesterday’s community case still very ill. He may have been so sick that he wasn’t in the community a lot.

Also a truck driver now in Victoria who had been in community.

Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein released the government’s COVID roadmap this afternoon. The state will reopen to other states and territories on December 15.

Also, masks are no longer mandatory in southern Tasmania, effective immediately, except for events like the Royal Hobart Show (which began on Wednesday and closes on Sunday, October 24) and Salamanca Market.

It’s crazy how a liberal premier has deviated from the national plan.

And from another liberal government, SA, we haven’t even got information on their roadmap. Absolutely shocking.

QLD Update: 0 new cases detected in the community overnight.

Quite a comprehensive defeat for anti-vaxers - who “researched the vaccines on the internet”. All their arguments were rejected. All QPS employees must now be vaccinated by January 23 next year or face suspension without pay or dismissal.

The full bench of Queensland’s Industrial Relation Commission (QIRC) rejected submissions that Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll had no power to mandate compulsory vaccinations, did not consult staff and infringed upon workers’ rights.

According to the QIRC documents, Senior Constable Luis Larrarte had “researched the vaccines on the internet and exhibited to his affidavit the various documents that he discovered”.

So at what point do we actually treat this whole pandemic as the ‘flu’ and move on.

Mid 2022?
Next Christmas?
2023?

The US and UK are 6 months ahead of us. Hardly looks like they are ready to call it just yet.

Feels like this whole things is just neverending. I just don’t know what sort of timeframe we are going to walk away from it. Someone said we need to cycle another year to see ‘what happens’. Some countries are nervous with the likes of Singapore reintroducing restrictions. High Vax rates and introducing restrictions, what difference now or in 1 or 2 years does it make.

I think it will be around October next year when everyone has had boosters

I’ve gotta say, from a UK perspective. We are so exhausted. It always feels like “just one more hurdle” the vaccine has been avail for almost a year now here

We have always had an alarmingly high flu rate in the UK, death toll

We’ve had 3 lockdowns

Offering boosters

Scotland has masks and passports but their case rate is higher

The NHS has been struggling for 20 years

Just 5% of hospital beds are being used by covid patients

I rode in a taxi last night. My driver was a 81 year old female! Probably in an age risk age group. She said “I’m just done. I don’t care anymore. I’m going to keep being careful and love my life, I don’t want my last years to be living in a constant loop of panic anxiety and fear”

She kinda sums it up.

I still find it all interesting but I’ve really stopped caring. It does feel never ending.

And just reading that Singapore has its highest ever death rate 16 - at 85% vaccination.

There is only so much we can do. Covid is gonna covid.

Vaccinate as many as possible. At risk folk should double mask. We should protect them as much as possible. The sooner this thing moves through the population and infects the rest of us - the sooner we can move on.

It just seems it has a way of finding everyone eventually. The last 4 weeks in the UK cases in vaccinated people are at 80% now up from 55% 4 weeks ago.

Every vaccinated person that catches covid and gets through it is one step closer to herd immunity and being able to move on from this never ending nightmare

It seems everyone is going to get covid eventually. Like the flu. Maybe you go one or two or three seasons then you get it.

If someone vaccinated gets covid and dies - then a lockdown or mask requirement would not have prevented their death. Just delayed it a season or two - until covid finds them. As it seems to

At some point we aren’t saving lives anymore - just delaying deaths

You are still saving lives in your language, even one or two extra years is a good thing.

The main thing of concern with COVID is it mutates very quickly, more quickly than other viruses we have had in the past. That is the real concern, particularly when the international borders open up, which will provide a much easier entry for new strains.

I see it differently. If the person is double vaxed and succumbs to covid regardless - I don’t see it as saving a live - it’s shielding it from an inevitable death a little longer.

Yep strains can come into Australia. And as covid begins circulating in Australia- Oz could export a new strain to the world.

Welcome to the inevitable

To me, that sounds like saying to a cancer patient that is lucky to get an extra three months than anticipated: Hey forget that, may as well go now seeing as you’re going to die anyway.

I’m saying in the context of lockdowns and heavy restrictions on tens of millions of people’s lives and society being able to function.

According to Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt this morning, 86.6% of Australia’s eligible population have had their first dose of COVID vaccine, while 73.1% have received a second dose.

He also unveiled the federal government’s next COVID vaccine campaign called Spread Freedom. There are two new commercials which will be shown on TV from tonight.

The second ad features notable Indigenous celebrities such as rapper Baker Boy, didgeridoo player William Barton, chef Nornie Bero, model Samantha Harris, emerging artist Tori-Jay Mordey and Paralympian Amanda Reid.

QLD Update: 0 + 0 cases reported yesterday.

Some contact places were added owing to people who came into the far southwest and were escorted from the state by police who were tested positive.

Pop up vaccination numbers being collated from yesterday, preliminary 2nd highest day.
