COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

Whilst those are doses administers by the states it doesn’t include the 1million vaccinated by GP Clinics and the 200,000 by the Commonwealth. Australia now has over 2.035million vaccines administered. Here’s to hoping for a ramp up in the next couple of weeks as more people are eligable.

so 5 months in, the job is 4% done. hooray Australia!!

should have this thing wrapped up by 2028. :+1:

That’s being way too optimistic. :stuck_out_tongue:

We’ve only been vaccinating for around 2 months in selected groups and it would be more like 8% of the population that have received a first dose (as I doubt many second doses administered as most have to wait a certain period before they can get a second). Also we are never going to fully vaccinate our population. I would say 65-70% max.

2027 then?? :tada: :tada:

Think 2037. :stuck_out_tongue:

Victoria has been notified of 1 new case of coronavirus since yesterday, in a returned traveller in hotel quarantine.

The case is a man aged in his 50s.

Victoria has recorded no new locally acquired cases.

This is the 62nd day in a row that no new cases have been acquired in Victoria.

44 new hotel quarantine cases in Sydney over the last four days. Hopefully cases will stay in the hotels and not spread to the community.

Nine reporting strong detections. Looks like we might have a live one in the community.

These wastewater detections are a bit alarmist and I don’t trust them one bit.

Are the authorities banning people in quarantine/hospital from going to the toilet? Are they hooking up hotels and hospitals to a special sewage system? If not, there is literally zero point in performing this type of surveillance.

It is most likely that these new detections are due to a person or persons continuing to shed the virus after the infection period

This is the first time the department has gone chasing groups of people after testing sewage.

Must be strong detections. I don’t know how that works

We had one Perth positive sneak over not unexpected to have another.

It’s a concern though it will be interesting to see if there is a case in the community.

They aren’t though. They are just asking the close contacts of that Qantas flight to get retested.

You do realise you post a lot of tweets and news stories as well don’t you? Isn’t that the same thing?

I suspect that the detections are occurring outside of the wastewater treatment plants that the quarantine hotels are using. Of course for all we know it could be residual shedding of those positive cases in hotel quarantine that have since tested negative and gone home.

Under the new rules, masks will remain mandatory in public but only indoors, on public transport and outside when physical distancing is not possible – such as at major sporting events.

Maximum capacity at major sporting venues such as Optus Stadium and RAC Arena will be lifted to 75 per cent.

The 4sqm rule will only apply to nightclubs, which can re-open from midnight tomorrow with masks mandatory.
