COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

Simon love just reported on ten news that there could be an announcement as early as tomorrow announcing Mickleham

Victoria has been notified of 2 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

The cases are a man in his 30s and a teenage girl.

This is the 61st day in a row that no new cases have been acquired in Victoria.

The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 20,515.

Update: contact tracing

Negative test results have been received for all close contacts associated with the interstate acquired case announced on Friday, including passengers, air and ground crew of interest to Victoria from flight QF778, and people in Victoria linked to WA exposure sites.

On Google Maps, the Mickleham pet quarantine facility is close to the Hume Freeway and nearby suburb of Kalkallo (top right). The locals may not like the idea of having returned travellers housed in quarantine there (even if only temporarily).

In theory that’s an option, that you can just check the box to consent to it on the form and receive it. Presumably right now that applies to people under 50 who are in group 1a/1b, that they can ask to get it.

In general locals oppose all development all of the time.

What’s only for cattle?

They do more than just pets there, although that’s what the general public would know it as. It’s known as the PEQ, Good rundown of it here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.aph.gov.au/parliamentary_business/committees/house_of_representatives_committees%3Furl%3Dpwc/tarinkot/report/chapter3.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiznrup46DwAhVBILcAHYAPCK8QFjAbegQIGhAC&usg=AOvVaw2EcF2U-DyJCUE11n_wOa0Y

So now they’re just putting straight at the feet of the responsible Commonwealth department, the Department of Agriculture Water and the Environment by wanting to build it not just adjacent to but it would appear part of the PEQ!

I cannot see this announcement going anywhere. What a waste of time and hope for a solution.

Why wait until September? Shouldn’t such a hub be built ASAP?

Fingers crossed Victoria’s hotel quarantine system holds up through this winter.

Victoria and NSWs seem to be neck and neck with the number of people vaccinated. But it’s a drip feed and a very slow uptake in both states.

Both states now just over 200k

Because the commonwealth haven’t agreed to it and are unlikely to.

The state government have already approached them about using a portion of the PEQ land to build it, but the commonwealth have made no commitments.

It’s nothing but grandstanding from the AL, surprised the media aren’t picking this up already.

Laos is having their first outbreak of the pandemic.

Laos is the only country left in the world that has a population over 1mil and has not had a single death yet. Timor-Leste and Mongolia both only had their first death recently.
