COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

I’m sure no one is surprised at this decision.

Hopefully they’ll get on top of this in the next 3 days.

Anzac Day commemorations in Perth and Peel region had been cancelled, but Mark McGowan encouraged everyone to take part in the driveway Dawn Service again this year.

Kardinya is a suburb in southern Perth, east of Fremantle.

Mark Mcgowan said: He says the man in Victoria who returned a positive test had travelled from Shanghai. He spent five days out in Perth after returning a negative test at the end of his quarantine period, before testing positive in Melbourne.

This lockdown is a joke. They are letting people flee Perth this evening for the long weekend, and sporting events tonight can go ahead with crowds.

Either lock down or don’t.

Bizarre they are letting crowds to these sports events tonight. I mean what is the point of the lockdown.

If you want to flee you can most certainly jump on a Virgin or Qantas flight this arvo and elope. You’ve got till 12am!

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said public sporting events from midnight tonight over the next three days will only be allowed to have professional players and officials in attendance. Community members will not be allowed into those venues.

I heard from Mark McGowan press conference on Nine News that the Fremantle v North Melbourne match (that is scheduled on Saturday night) will go ahead as usual, but only with players and coaches. Ticket holders will not be allowed in. However, the Western Force vs QUeensland Reds match will go ahead, but people must wear a mask. From 6PM tonight, everyone must wear a mask when travelling outside from home.

If there was going to be a lockdown the WA premier should have announced it as soon as possible instead of delaying the press conference, and it should have started this afternoon. I also don’t understand why it is not starting until midnight if it is as important as he says it is.

Mr McGowan is defending the timing of the lockdown.

"We discussed this during the course of the day. It is now past 3pm… we only have learned about this second case in the course of the last hour or so and we have had to make a judgement call on what is possible to be implemented. So we took the advice of the health officials and also the police commissioner.

"Logistically, it was very difficult to put in place the rules at 6pm so we moved it to 12pm just to allow for the drafting of the rules and secondly the implementation of the rules. That is why we are asking people to be sensible to wear masks and if you… Personally, I would discourage people from attending these events tonight.

ā€œMy wife and daughter and I were going out for her birthday this evening and we have cancelled that. I just encourage people to do the right thing, stay home. If you go out for one of the essential purposes, wear a mask.ā€

Apparently ā€œlogistical challengesā€.

It does seem extremely bizarre that they are happy for people to leave Perth and potentially spread the virus into regional areas over the weekend. If a lockdown is necessary then do it properly.

Mark Mcgowan said the man in Victoria who returned a positive test had travelled from Shanghai. He spent five days out in Perthafter returning a negative test at the end of his quarantine period, before testing positive in Melbourne. and fromt the vic Health minister :He was contacted by Western Australian health authorities as he arrived in Melbourne to be told he was considered a close contact of a positive case.ā€œOut of caution, before that positive result was returned, the individual requested to be moved to hotel quarantine in Melbourne,ā€ Mr Foley said.
ā€œHe did exactly the right thing, he showed no signs of the illness and as a result of our friends in Western Australia notifying him and notifying us we were able to immediately get onto this case.ā€

It should have been immediate with the only reason to leave the Perth area this afternoon being to return home if you live outside Perth.

If people, let alone government, insist on using AM/PM, get it right. 00:00 (midnight) is 12 AM, while 12:00 (noon) is 12 PM.

There obviously needs to be some lead time for the news to get out to people, as well as police and other government agencies, and businesses.

It’d be unfair to penalise people with no notice.

The main point of a lockdown is to stop (or pause) spread, so contact tracing can catch up.

Yeah, you can put the directive in place effective immediately and then start the physical enforcement at a later time if needed.

Anyone with half a brain would cancel their trip since they may not be able to get back to Perth until after Monday which means getting to work on Tuesday would be a problem. And if the lockdown is extended they might find themselves stuck for longer. Just because they can still get out now doesn’t mean they should or will.
