COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

Can we immediately pause flights from India? The case numbers over there are scary with another record broken again for daily cases. It seems to be the reason for increasing numbers in Quarantine here too. Surely we can manage these but if these numbers keep rising it keeps increasing risk.

Let’s see what happens in Perth. I’m expecting the usual hard stance from Mark. My dad flew over there this week for a wedding this weekend, lets bet that is off. :man_facepalming:

I reckon WA will have to stop accepting arrivals from overseas countries for hotel quarantine for a period.

Otherwise, the restructions will be similar to those imposed the last time Perth and the south west region of WA went into lockdown.

The Anzac Day commemorations in Perth this Sunday must now be in serious doubt.

Agreed. Their situation is worse than America at their worst. A lot of states are getting more imported cases these days so the risk increases as a result. Just put India on a ‘no fly’ zone until their situation eases, whenever that will be.

No offence intended but it’s for the safety of us here.

If only we knew about the dangers of hotel quarantine. Seriously, fucking get on with outdoor cabin style accommodation and stop this insanity. If you can’t negatively pressure the environment, it isn’t workable.

Since the screencap was posted, India had reached a new record of cases in a single day: 332,730.

The problem in India is probably significantly worse than the numbers are showing.

According to Worldometer India’s testing rates per 1M population are significantly lower than most of the countries that you mentioned.

USA and uk have been much worse than India in all per capita metrics. And usas test positivity was over 35% at multiple points. India is currently 20% I dont think there is any way to say a flight ban on India now is consistent with past decisions.

That said I did support a uk ban early in the year, it could have saved us 3 lockdowns.

Yeah it seems like there are a lot more cases out there than the numbers are even showing. I am a little torn about suspending flights from India. But perhaps they could put further caps and restrictions - like returning a negative test.

ABC reporting that the WA Chamber of Minerals has told its members that WA will be entering a three day lockdown.

Seems like a bit of a joke if they do actually enter a lockdown over one case that travelled from a hotel to the airport and immediately left the state.

Edit - OK, seems like he was roaming free around Perth for 5-6 days. Even still, have some confidence in your ability to contact trace.

Sounds like there are zero new cases to report.

No cases reported but it sounds like they’re going all out because of the hotel quarantine cases.

1 bonus case on top of this

A bonus case of COVID with every roll of dunny paper. :stuck_out_tongue: Only in WA for a limited time.

Does this mean that mines in regional WA will be affected in some way (e.g. FIFO workers)?

It’s just Perth and Peel at this stage. It will effect movement on/off sites though I imagine.

Perth and Peel region only. If they were in this region in the last week they only need to wear a mask. So regional WA is kept out of this

However I don’t think they can fly out from tomorrow through Monday
