COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

Is it possible that these are people from the same family or that traveled together which is the reason the rooms are so close? My brother moved to New Zealand last month and he said that the proximity of hotel rooms in Quarantine was based on who you traveled with or were near on the flight. So if someone in there is positive you are a close contact anyway. Even in NZ you get to go outside a couple times a day and others do it the same time as you but you are grouped with people from the same flight. You have to wear face masks but he said they were talking outdoors to other people every day - which surprised me.

Health Minister Martin Foley said the man had stayed in an adjacent room in hotel quarantine to a person who later returned a positive COVID test.

He was contacted by Western Australian health authorities as he arrived in Melbourne to be told he was considered a close contact of a positive case.

“Out of caution, before that positive result was returned, the individual requested to be moved to hotel quarantine in Melbourne,” Mr Foley said.
“He did exactly the right thing, he showed no signs of the illness and as a result of our friends in Western Australia notifying him and notifying us we were able to immediately get onto this case.”

and the guy wore a mask on the plan home from perth and in the airport

You can’t fix stupid.

It was a year ago that US President Donald Trump suggested drinking disinfectant. Looking at this again, he was probably thinking that people should be swallowing a torch to get light inside their body.

Seems so. And I’d say it won’t just be one state if it occurs. We will probably have many on the go at once.

No evidence that is has spread outside yet so I’m really not sure what exactly he is going to propose.

Just get testing numbers up through the roof. By all means if a issue arises from that then sure go nuts as they always do.

With such high numbers abroad would it be wise for the next quarter to possibly reduce all inbound arrivals? We need to protect the May to August winter period.

Knowing McGowan he’ll most likely throw the state into lockdown again. Last lockdown came from one hotel quarantine worker testing positive with no other implications. Now that more people are testing positive there’s a high chance they’re going to go hard again.

Update now pushed to 2.15 local time. The longer the conference is delayed the more it suggests that the announcements are not good.
